Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe is set for an untimely period on the sidelines with a thigh injury.

Kylian Mbappe Injury Update: How Long Is He Out For?

The Frenchman was a late substitute in Madrid’s 3-2 win over Alaves earlier this week with a suspected issue in his left leg, which has since been verified.

After the full-time whistle, Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti described the injury as simply a ‘knock’ and told reporters the substitution was completely precautionary.

“He’s fine – a little overloaded. He asked me for the change to avoid problems.”

However, the club released a statement confirming Mbappe has been diagnosed with an injury to the ‘femoral biceps’ of his left leg following a round of a medical tests.

It is expected that the 25-year-old will spend up to three weeks on the sidelines, meaning he will miss Sunday’s Madrid derby against Atletico at the Metropolitano.

Before suffering the injury, Mbappe connected with Jude Bellingham to score his seventh goal for the club since joining on a five-year deal in June worth €15 million a season.

When Will Kylian Mbappe Return?

Assuming that Mbappe will miss three weeks, a possible return date could be Madrid’s trip to Celta Vigo in La Liga on Saturday, October 19th.

That means he will miss three games:

  • Away vs Atletico Madrid (La Liga) – September 29th
  • Away vs Lille (Champions League) – October 2nd
  • Home vs Villarreal (La Liga) – October 5th

Following the Villarreal clash, La Liga breaks 0ff for two weeks for another international break where Mbappe will likely play no part for the France national team.

The injury comes at an unfortunate time for the player, who had scored six in his last seven for Real Madrid.

Following a relatively slow start in the league where he failed to record a goal contribution in his first three outings, Mbappe’s form has picked up significantly since.

According to the best football betting sites, Mbappe is the 11/2 third-favourite to win the Champions League top scorer award.

He is 11/8 to score at least 35 goals in La Liga this season with five in seven so far.
