Who are in the Presidents Cup teams? Will be a popular question this week as the big golf event takes centre stage in Canada. We’ll see 12 players in both a US Presidents Cup side and International Presidents Cup team battling in out for 30 points – with the action being played out at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Quebec.

Who Are The Presidents Cup Team Captains 2024?

The 2024 Presidents Cup team captains are Jim Furyk, who will lead the US team and Mike Weir, who will guide the International side.

This will be the first time Furyk and Weir have captained sides in the Presidents Cup – they take over from Davis Love III (US) and Trevor Immelman (International), who led the golf teams when the even was last played in 2022.

Presidents Cup History

The golf team event first teed-off in 1994, with the opening tournament being held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia, US.

It was the USA team that won the inaugural competition, with a score of 20-12 and led by team captain Hale Irwin.

Since then, there have been 12 more Presidents Cups played and the US team have won them all bar one.

Their only defeat came in 1998, when the event was held in Melbourne, with Australian golfer Peter Thomson leading home the win 21 1/2 to 10 1/2.

There was also a tied Presidents Cup in 2003 in South Africa, but since then the US team have won ALL nine renewals – including the most recent in 2022 at the Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina.

Heading into the 2024 Presidents Cup it’s therefore no surprise the best golf betting sites in the UK are making the US team the hot favourites again.

Presidents Cup Format

The Presidents Cup is a match play-style event – similar to the Ryder Cup, with 12 players on each side.

With each team having a captain, who has the job of picking his pairs for the doubles events – which are an alternate shot and best ball, which are more commonly known as foursomes and a fourball.

Like the Ryder Cup, each game will have a point up for grabs for their team – and if a match is halved then each side will win 1/2 a point to their overall total.

Then then final Presidents Cup day will see all 12 players in action in singles matches – paired against a player from the opposite team in a straight match play game, with the winner getting a point for their team.

In total there are 30 points on offer

  • 5 foursomes
  • 5 fourballs
  • 4 foursomes
  • 4 fourballs
  • 12 singles
