FPL GW5 Tips

I’m Pras and welcome to my weekly series for SportsCasting, where I will be providing my thoughts on my FPL GW5 tips.

For context, over the last 12 seasons of FPL I have achieved four top 10k finishes, including two top 5k finishes.

My seasonal average over the last seven seasons is around 21k. Every week, I’ll be talking about the Captaincy, and 2 picks per position. One the sensible pick, the head if you will.

The other is the maverick pick, or the heart. The idea is to give you two options per position to either chance it and go different or be safe and sensible.

Pras’ FPL GW5 Tips

Captaincy

Head – For the first time this season, Haaland isn’t the most sensible choice for captaincy as he faces the very strong Arsenal defence.

Instead, I have opted for another FPL royalty, Mohammed Salah, as the go-to captain choice this weekend. Backing him at Anfield against Bournemouth, where we had the infamous 9-0 win a couple of seasons ago and Salah blanked!

Bournemouth are a much better team these days, but on paper this is still the best fixture to target this week.

HeartOllie Watkins, despite paying limited mins, seems to coming back into form. With Carabao Cup games in the midweek, I expect him to get a rest there.

He has the joint big chances and the second-highest expected goals amongst all players. Thus, Wolves at home is a prime fixture for a couple of returns and he’d be my maverick choice for captaincy this week.

Defender

Head – Trent Alexander Arnold finishes his great run of strong home fixtures this week. With attacking returns in the champions league midweek and for England earlier, I think they are imminent in FPL as well.

Backing him at both end of the pitch this week – clean sheet and hopefully attacking returns.

Heart – Despite Spurs’ poor defensive numbers, Porro’s has been the defender with most shots (eight) and has created the second most (10) chances in the league. Nice home fixture could mean attacking returns and maybe a chance of a clean sheet.

Midfielder

Head – See captaincy section on Salah above.

Heart – Cole Palmer – One goal and four assists in first 3 GWs were followed by a disappointing blank in GW4.

Away to West Ham isn’t an easy game, but playing centrally suits Cole and he should be involved in everything Chelsea create.

Forwards

Head – See captaincy section on Watkins above.

Heart – Can Dom Solanke finally get his first goal for Spurs? I don’t see why not. It’s a home game, he is fully fit. Think he is a good under the radar shout this week.
