FPL Gameweek 5 Best Forwards

Holly Shand names her FPL Gameweek 5 best forwards after being forced to change Yoane Wissa following an ankle injury.

FPL Gameweek 5 Best Forwards – Holly Shand

Brentford striker Yoane Wissa (£6.1m) had a sensational start to the season, with four goal involvements in the opening four gameweeks. However, he picked up an ankle injury in the defeat to Manchester City and now faces two months out. So who are the best forwards to target to replace him in FPL this week?

Danny Welbeck

I would have loved to recommend Joao Pedro here, but given his own fitness concerns, it doesn’t seem wise to replace one injured player for another. Welbeck has surprised us all with four starts in this campaign to date, with three goal involvements.

He has the potential to continue to roll back the years, with Brighton an important team to target given that they lead the way with 67 shots in this campaign. Welbeck could also deputise on penalties if Joao Pedro was to miss out again.

If Joao Pedro makes the squad for the League Cup third round game against Wolves on Wednesday evening, then he would move above Welbeck as the Brighton striker to target. Both are great value in the game, priced at under £6.0 million.

Chris Wood

Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood should be a key consideration at the same price point, after kicking off the campaign with two goals from five big chances on goal.

Forest are unbeaten this season and their favourable fixtures continue over the next six gameweeks.

There were concerns at the start of the season that Wood would be a rotation risk, with plenty of strikers linked with a move to the City ground in the summer transfer window.

However, none of those moves transpired leaving Wood nailed long-term, despite being prone to an early substitution.

Wood remains a differential in the game in less than 10% of sides. He is in 7% of teams, double the ownership of any other Nottingham Forest player. His popularity is understandable, given that he’s scored half of their goals so far in the 2024/25 season.

Dominic Solanke

If you have a Wissa injury to deal with this week and some money in the bank then consider upgrading him to Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominc Soalnke, who earned his first home start of the season in the North London Derby last time out, having missed Gameweek 2 and Gameweek 3 through injury.

He has the potential to be a bargain in the game priced at just £7.5 million, having been initially priced to be Bournemouth’s striker when the game launched, before moving to Spurs. If he can come close to the 19 goals scored for the Cherries last season, he will be a very popular pick.

He started the campaign in around 25% of sides before succumbing to injury. Solanke has produced five shots in 180 minutes, including three shots on target and one big chance. Spurs face Brentford and Manchester United next, with plenty of opportunities for Solanke to deliver.
