Riccardo Calafiori Injury Update (1)

See the latest Riccardo Calafiori injury update as Arsenal’s new signing gets sent home from international duty in a major blow for Mikel Arteta.

Riccardo Calafiori Injury Update: What Happened?

Whilst playing for Italy against France on Friday night, Calafiori was involved in a freak tangle with Ousmane Dembele. The PSG forward stumbled and caught the Arsenal star on the back of the leg in a nasty collision.

Calafiori tried to continue, but hobbled off the field five minutes later. This raised alarms inside the Arsenal camp and their summer signing has now returned back to the UK.

The Gunners will be hopeful that it isn’t a repeat of last season. Jurrien Timber suffered a long-term injury just weeks after signing from Ajax last summer.

Calafiori is yet to start for Arsenal since his £33million, but has made two appearances off the bench.

The Italian defender was one of four new arrivals at the Emirates during the summer alongside Mikel Merino, Raheem Sterling (loan) and Neto (loan).

How Long Will Riccardo Calafiori Be Out Injured For?

It is not yet known how long Calafiori will be on the sidelines for, but he is set to undergo medical tests upon his return to North London.

Originally, Italy boss Lucas Spaletti was hopeful Calafiori would be available for Monday’s clash with Israel on Monday.

He said: “We need to assess Riccardo but with our staff, we’ve a good chance to have him back with us for the next game,

However, the news of Calafiori’s exit from the Italy camp will be worrying for Arsenal ahead of their Premier League showdown with Tottenham straight after the international break.
