Sprint Cup Haydock Runners 2024 – Who Are The Main Contenders?

See below some of the main fancies and runners for the Sprint Cup at Haydock, which looks one of the most competitive horse racing renewals for many a year.

INISHERIN

  • Trainer: Kevin Ryan
  • Age: 3
  • Form: 16115

One of the main Sprint Cup fancies with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK, but will need to bounce back from a fifth in the July Cup last time out. Prior to that run Inisherin was a tidy winner of the Group One Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot (watch below) and if getting back to that form will be the one to beat.

Also has a course and distance win to his name this season when taking the Sandy Lane Stakes and his trainer Kevin Ryan has a top record in the Sprint Cup, with two wins since 2019.

However, if you like your horse racing stats – there are also two big 77% Haydock Sprint Cup trends that Inisherin has to overcome.

ELITE STATUS

  • Trainer: Karl Burke
  • Age: 3
  • Form: 178-11

Like Inisherin, Elite Status is owned by Shiekh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum and despite being officially rated 5lbs inferior will head to the Haydock Sprint Cup with many fans having won his last two.

The most recent of those successes came in the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes at Newbury (watch below) – when beating last year’s Sprint Cup winner Regional (4th), Lake Forest (2nd) and Kind Of Blue (3rd). He’s now won five of his eight career starts.

His only negative, however, have come when stepping up to G1 level – being well beaten both times.

SWINGALONG

  • Trainer: Karl Burke
  • Age: 4
  • Form: 44-822

Another from the Karl Burke yard, who won the Sprint Cup for the only time in 2016 with Quiet Reflection. This 4 year-old filly has been mixing it with the best sprinters this season and was last seen running a neck second to Mill Stream in the July Cup (watch below).

Prior to that run Swingalong picked up another silver in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and was also 4th (beaten just 1 1/2 lengths) in this race 12 months ago. Certainly, a leading player getting the fillies’ weight allowance too.

JASOUR

  • Trainer: Clive Cox
  • Age: 3
  • Form: 89-136

The Clive Cox yard fired in the Haydock Sprint Cup winner in 2017 with Harry Angel and look to have a leading chance of adding to that with Jasour. This 3 year-old grey colt has been lightly campaigned this season with a return win at Ascot in May in the G3 Commonwealth Cup Trial Stakes (watch below) and backed that up with a fine third in the main race to Inisherin in June.

He’s since run 6th in the July Cup – beaten just 3 lengths – where he took a bit of a hold. If able to settle better here will have a better chance of lasting out and being a 3 year-old will get some weight off the older runners.

SKYCATCHER

  • Trainer: Karl Burke
  • Age: 6
  • Form: 130561

Yet another from the Karl Burke yard, who are clearly meaning business in the Haydock Sprint Cup this year.

One of the older runners in the field at 6, but Skycatcher is retaining his ability well – backed up with a top Group 3 win in France last time out.

The key to his chance could be the ground – the softer the better for this sone of Vadamos, who was winning on ‘very soft’ conditions last time at Deauville.

He was also a close second in the Group 1 Maurice de Gheest at Deauville in 2023 (watch below) – again in testing ground.
