Saturday’s Haydock Sprint Cup 2024 is the feature horse racing event in the UK this weekend and we look set for a super-competitive affair with the Kevin Ryan-trained Inisherin heading the entries that are littered with many chances.

Inisherin Hoping To Bounce Back In Haydock Sprint Cup After July Cup Defeat

Trainer Kevin Ryan has landed the Betfair Haydock Sprint Cup twice since 2019 and has a leading chance of adding to that with his classy 3 year-old Inisherin.

This is backed up with the horse heading the market at this stage with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK.

However, despite this, Inisherin is on a small recovery mission after being a beaten favourite in the July Cup at Newmarket last time out (watch below), when fifth behind Mill Stream.

He was beaten 2 3/4 lengths that day, having got outpaced during the race to run all too late – so will need to bounce back.

Inisherin was a tidy winner at Royal Ascot prior to that run though – when taking the Commonwealth Cup by an impressive 2 1/4 lengths. A repeat of that run, however, will make this Shamardal colt the one to beat.

The return to Haydock is also a big plus for this Kevin Ryan-trained horse. He won at the track back in May in the Group Two Sandy Lane Stakes (watch below).

Trainer Kevin Ryan’s most recent Betfair Haydock Sprint Cup win came with Emaraaty Ana, who was also owned at the time by Inisherin’s owner Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum.

Al Maktoum, could also have another leading chance in the weekend’s best UK horse racing contest, with his Elite Status, who has won five of his eight starts, also entered in Saturday’s big Haydock sprint.

Last Year’s Haydock Sprint Cup Winner Regional WON’T Run

Despite a competitive field of runners expected when the final declarations are announced on Thursday 5th September, one horse that won’t be running is last year’s winner – Regional.

Edward Bethell’s star sprinter, who was also runner-up in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot this season, has been declared a non-runner.

Connections are said to not be happy with their star sprinter, who took the Betfair Sprint Cup last season, and after also missing the Nunthorpe at York won’t run again this season.

Trainer James Fanshawe Looks To Enhance His Good Sprint Cup Record

Another trainer that has a top Betfair Haydock Sprint Cup record is James Fanshawe.

The Newmarket-based handler has won the top prize twice since 2012. Once with Society Rock (2012) and more recently with The Tin Man (2018).

He’s back for more in 2024 with Kind Of Blue, who was only 4 lengths adrift of Inisherin in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

The Blue Point colt has since backed that form up. He was a length third to Elite Status in the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes and last time out with a head silver in the Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh in Ireland.
