Football Twitter Reacts To Chelsea Selling Deivid Washington To BlueCo-owned Strasbourg For €21 Million
Football Twitter reacts to Chelsea agreeing selling youngster Deivid Washington to BlueCo-owned Strasbourg for €21 million.
The Ligue 1 club are owned by Chelsea’s owners, BlueCo, a consortium led by Todd Boehly, and often sign young players from the Premier League club on loan.
The proposed €21 million deal for Washington, which eclipses Strasbourg’s record transfer for any player, has raised questions among football fans.
The 19-year-old Brazilian has only played 25 minutes of first team football for Chelsea since joining from Santos last summer.
Chelsea’s Financial Maneuvers Under Scrutiny
Chelsea’s ownership has faced scrutiny for allegedly circumventing financial regulations. Boehly and the club have been accused of manipulating their finances by selling homegrown young players for inflated fees and selling a hotel for a substantial sum to avoid Premier League sanctions. The club’s dealings with its sister club are also under investigation.
As Chelsea prepare to face Crystal Palace this weekend, they find themselves in mid-table, having won one and lost one of their opening two matches.

Some football fans took a sarcastically witty approach to their reactions.
Incredible business from Chelsea.
Deivid Washington signed for €16m last summer and they've turned a €5m profit after a stellar season in which he played 25 minutes for the first team.
All this achieved by selling to… themselves. https://t.co/O7siNSbFaR

Others, took the matter more seriously, accusing Chelsea of bending the rules and ultimately cheating.
Deivid Washington signed a year ago for €16m & now has now been sold to a club under the same parent company as Chelsea. He played 25 first team minutes last season, his market value is €5.7m (@Transfersdotcom) & €9m (@Transfermarkt).
See this for what it is – cheating. https://t.co/k20cCjoqjP

Meanwhile, plenty of rival fans made their impression on the matter clear.
David Washington €21m permanent sale to Strasbourg from Chelsea.
RC Strasbourg is owned by Todd Boehly as well. Proper money laundering club. @premierleague, are you blind? This club must get relegated.

It has even raised eyebrows among Chelsea fans.
I’m crying man this club is straight up doing money laundering because how on earth are we selling Deivid Washington to Strasbourg for €21m when he couldn’t even get a loan all summer 😭
