In his latest Arsenal transfer update, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Espanyol are insisting that the Gunners must trigger the €30 million release clause to sign Joan Garcia this summer.

Fabrizio Romano Arsenal Update: Espanyol Want €30m For Garcia

With Aaron Ramsdale on the verge of joining Southampton in a deal worth up to £25 million, Arsenal will reportedly look to replace the Englishman with Espanyol’s Olympic gold medal-winning goalkeeper Joan Garcia.

Football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday morning that the Gunners had submitted a €20 million bid for the Spaniard and that personal terms between the player and the club had already been agreed.

Espanyol, however, are said to be insisting on Garcia’s €30 million release clause being met before they part ways with the 23-year-old stopper, with head coach Manolo Gonzalez admitting on Wednesday that he hopes he “does not leave”.

After helping guide Espanyol to promotion last term, Garcia most recently featured in a 0-0 draw against Atletico Madrid in La Liga, a clash in which he delivered a man of the match performance after making seven saves.

Espanyol Manager Gonzalez On ‘Luxury Player’ Garcia

Speaking to Spanish outlet Marca after Garcia’s standout performance on Wednesday, when questioned over a possible transfer, Gonzalez said: “I can’t do anything.

“If they pay the clause, we can’t do anything. I’m very happy that he’s here and that he’s from the club.

“I don’t think he’ll leave, but I can’t know. It’s a luxury to have a player like him. I say it every week, I don’t think he’ll leave. If I eat it, I’ll eat it, but it’s difficult for someone to pay a 30 million clause. If someone wants him, they should pay the clause. I can’t say any more.”

If Arsenal are able to get the deal done before Friday’s deadline, Garcia will follow Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Merino, and David Raya, who joined permanently after spending last season on loan at the Emirates, through the door.
