Fabrizio Romano Transfer Update: Forest Lodge €30m Gimenez Bid

After having their initial €25m bid rebuffed by Feyenoord, Nottingham Forest have returned with a bid worth €30m for Mexico striker Santiago Gimenez, claims football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Forest haven’t been shy in spending throughout the summer, signing cover for the majority of areas within their squad, however they haven’t added to their striking options, with Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi remaining their only two options in that category.

Wood scored in Forest’s 1-1 draw against Bournemouth at the weekend before Awoniyi was introduced as a late substitute, but Nuno Espirito Santo is still after another frontman to expand their options.

30-time Mexico international Gimenez has been identified as the man that could help fill that void, although the Reds also remain interested in Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed though that the Midlands club will only pursue one of Gimenez and Nketiah – not both, as current options Wood and Awoniyi negate the need for two new signings.

And based on the Italian’s latest transfer update, it seems that Forest are going all out for the former, with the 23-year-old boasting an impressive 40 goals in 64 Eredivisie matches since arriving in the Netherlands from Cruz Azul back in 2022.

Last season, Gimenez notched 26 goals and provided eight assists in 41 appearances for Feyenoord, as the Rotterdam-based club finished second in the league table and lifted the KNVB Cup.

The Mexican was also an instrumental figure in the club’s title-winning campaign back in 2022/23, their first league triumph since 2016/17, as he netted 23 times across all competitions.

He has also started this season in a similar vein to how he has ended the last two seasons in the Netherlands, scoring four goals and assisting twice in his opening three matches.

Gimenez On His Future At Feyenoord

Under contract with Feyenoord until 2027, Gimenez spoke to Dutch outlet Rijnmond on his future at the club and said: “There is interest from other clubs, but nothing serious, no offer, or anything like that. So, I focus on the here and now.

“After that, we’ll see. I’m an ambitious person, but I’m still here, and I have a contract. I’ll do my best for the club until the last day I’m here.

“The only one who knows whether I am ready for the next step or not is God. He determines my future and whether I am ready for it. I have told Dennis (Feyenoord chief executive Dennis te Kloese) and Brian (Feyenoord head coach Brian Priske) that they do not have to worry about my focus.”

The Mexican has also been linked with moves to the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham, and Benfica in previous months and throughout previous transfer windows.
