Joao Felix Portugal

Joao Felix has officially re-joined Chelsea, this time on a permanent deal, and as he becomes the Blues’ 11th signing this summer, football fans have responded with some hilarious takes on the club’s transfer dealings.

In the latest twist in Chelsea‘s summer transfer saga, they have completed the signing of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid for a fee reported to be in the region of £45m, while Conor Gallagher has headed the other way for around £33m.

The move sees Felix arrive at Stamford Bridge for a second spell, having previously spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan in the English capital. During that time, Felix made a total of 20 appearances for the Blues, in which he netted four and assisted one.

Felix, who has penned a seven-year deal with Chelsea, joins amid a cloud of controversy however, with many fans criticising the club’s recruitment strategy.

The Portugal international has become the West London side’s 11th signing of the summer transfer window, following the likes of Pedro Neto, Tosin Adarabioyo, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Aaron Anselmino, Caleb Wiley, Renato Veiga, and Marc Guiu through the door, with Estevao William due to join in 2025.

Their ever-growing squad has pushed the likes of Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell out of the matchday squad, with head coach Enzo Maresca now confirming that the pair will struggle for minutes if they don’t secure an exit before the transfer window closes.

Football Twitter Reacts To Joao Felix Signing For Chelsea

One fan pointed out the irony of Chelsea using Kanye West’s ‘Homecoming’ song in one of Felix’s announcement videos, as his signing enabled the sale of an actual homegrown player in Conor Gallagher.

One Manchester United fan took a jibe at the Blues’ constantly growing squad, with there being more than 50 senior players now under contract at Stamford Bridge.

Another football fan sarcastically suggested that if Chelsea are able to add 10-15 new players before the end of the window, they might be able to challenge for a position in the top eight.

Even budget airline Ryanair got in on the act, teasing, like many, the Blues over their oversized squad.
