Andrew has been in great form this week with winners at up to 16-1 and has three more stats-based selections on Saturday, August 17th…

NEWBURY 2.25

MICHAELA’S BOY (system – Robert Cowell, gelded since last run, 5f handicaps)

Since the start of 2012, Robert Cowell has a nine from 37 record in 5f handicaps with horses having their first start since a gelding operation. Backing the qualifiers blind would have returned a lovely profit of £55.29 to a £1 level stake at SP. MICHAELA’S BOY, who has also had a wind operation ahead of her debut for Cowell, looks set to go well.

NEWBURY 4.05

BOUBYAN (system – Andrew Balding, second time out 2yos, beaten 10L or less on debut)

Andrew Balding’s juveniles, who were beaten but ran withing ten lengths of the winner on their debuts, have a great record at the second time of asking. Those who debuted on turf won 92 of their 364 starts for a profit of £89.25 (expected winners = 73.46, A/E =1.25). BOUBYAN, beaten by seven lengths when seventh of ten at Ffos Last on his debut, is likely to take a big step forward this afternoon and looks worth an each-way dabble at around the 20-1 mark.

DONCASTER 4.50

BORN TO ROCK (system – George Scott, stable switchers)

George Scott has a solid recent record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers, scoring with four of the eight qualifiers since the beginning of last year for a profit of £22.94 to a £1 level stake at SP. BORN TO ROCK caught the eye when a 20-1 seventh in the Group 3 Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes at Lingfield two runs back, staying down the middle of the track from her poor low draw, rather than using her early speed to get across to the #golden highway’ on the stands’ side and it’s interesting to see her returned to 5f on fast ground for the first time since her wide-margin debut win at Yarmouth for Jane Chapple-Hyam.
