Simone Inzaghi Praises Mikel Arteta And Arsenal Ahead Of Wenesday’s Champions League Clash
Inter manager Simone Inzaghi has been full of praise for both Arsenal and Mikel Arteta this week, during the buildup to their Champions League clash against the Gunners on Wednesday.
Simone Inzaghi Praises Arsenal
Arsenal take on Inter at the San Siro on Wednesday night in what could be one of the stiffest tests to date for Mikel Arteta’s North London side.
But before the game, the man sitting in the opposing dugout to Arteta has given high praise to this week’s visitors, with Simone Inzaghi looking forward to welcoming the Gunners.
“We know what awaits us, before the break we have two important games and we will try to play two great matches,” Inzaghi said. “We are playing against two very strong teams, but our focus now is only on Arsenal, one of Europe’s best [teams], coached by a top manager like Arteta.”
Arsenal are currently 12th in the Champions League group stage heading into matchday four and they are only three places below Milan because of goal difference.
But the praise from Inzaghi didn’t stop there, as he continued to say: “You’d recognize them among a hundred teams: aggressive, dynamic, and disciplined like a true team. They competed head-to-head with City for the Premier League over the last two seasons for good reason.
“In theory, we should aim to hold possession as much as possible. But we know it won’t be as simple as it was with City due to Arsenal’s pressing.”
Although Inzaghi holds high praise for the Gunners, Arsenal have won just two of their last five games and the Italians couldn’t be facing the side at a better time.
Arsenal Returning To The San Siro
Wednesday night will be the first time Arsenal have played at the San Siro since 2003, but the last time they played at the iconic venue there was a very memorable scoreline.
Arsenal won 5-1 in the 2003 group stage game, with Thierry Henry scoring two and Freddie Ljungberg, Robert Pires and Edu all getting on the scoresheet.

Surprisingly Arsenal have not faced Inter in any competition since 2003, with the series tied at one game each.
In the reverse fixture Milan did find a way to win, with a 3-0 win at Highbury keeping the head to head record between the clubs level for the next 20 years.
Two decades down the line so much has changed with both clubs, but the one thing that has remained is both teams presence in Europe and Wednesday should be a cracker in Milan.
Although there will be no Henry or Pires at the San Siro this week, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard could return after coming back to training this week.
Declan Rice on the other hand will not be available with the English midfielder staying in London to recover from a knock.
