Ruben Amorim CONFIRMED As New Manchester United Manager On 3-Year Deal
Having sacked Erik ten Hag earlier this week, there has been much speculation about Sporting manager Ruben Amorim leaving Portugal to take over at Old Trafford. Well, the speculation has turned to fact as Amorim has been confirmed as the new Red Devils’ boss.
Ruben Amorim CONFIRMED As New United Boss
Speculation has been rife since Erik ten Hag’s sacking on Monday that Ruben Amorim would be taking over as new Manchester United boss. Those rumours have been confirmed today, as the former Sporting manager has been confirmed as the Red Devils Head Coach on a three-year deal.
The announcement of Amorim was confirmed by the club just before midday this morning, with a sense of hope and rejuvenation amongst United fans with the appointment.
The Portuguese tactician has signed a deal with United until June 2027, heading to Old Trafford on November 11 after he fulfils his duties with current club Sporting.
This means that Amorim’s first match as Manchester United boss will be a visit to Portman Road on November 24 to face Premier League strugglers Ipswich.
The appointment of Amorim means the 39-year-old will have the best part of two weeks to work with his new squad, prior to his first game in charge.
Interestingly, this is the first time United have appointed an individual as their head coach, rather than the title of manager. It also makes Amorim the youngest manager in the history of Manchester United FC.
It's done.

Will Ruben Amorim Be In Charge Against Chelsea On Sunday?
Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge will not be until after the upcoming International break. That means Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in the Manchester United dugout this weekend as Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea head to Old Trafford on Super Sunday.
Although van Nistelrooy, the former prolific United striker, will be in charge for United’s next game, it has not yet been decided whether he will be part of Amorim’s coaching staff or not.
How Much Did Manchester United Pay Sporting For Ruben Amorim?
United have agreed to pay Amorim’s parent club Sporting €11 million (£9.25m) to trigger a release clause in Amorim’s contract. On top of that, United have paid Sporting an extra €1m (£840,000) on top of this fee for an early release from his 30-day notice period.
This means that the Red Devils have paid a total of €12 million for Ruben Amorim’s appointment. Not to mention their agreed fee for his contract, which will has been agreed for three years until June 2027.
Amorim certainly has a big job on his hands to steer United back in the right direction. Could Amorim be the man to return Manchester United to their former glories? Only time will tell.
What Was Ruben Amorim’s Managerial Record Like At Sporting?
Ruben Amorim was appointed as Sporting boss back in 2020, despite only having two months of top flight experience with Braga.
Sporting paid €10 million to secure Amorim’s services, which at the time was the third-highest transfer fee for a manager in the history of football.
The 39-year-old made an instant impact at Sporting, guiding them to their first league title in 19 years in his first full season in charge in 2020/21.
Last season, Sporting won their second league title with Amorim in charge, which Manchester United will be hoping will be the case in the next couple of years themselves.
Overall, Amorim leaves Sporting with a 70% winning ratio. He took charge of 228 games in all competitions, winning 161, drawing 34 and losing just 33 all-in-all. Not to mention a +302 goal difference during his reign as manager. Not a bad managerial record.
Red Devils fans will be hoping their new head coach can bring a new style of football to Old Trafford, while also putting points on the board and trophies in the cabinet very quickly. Ultimately, Ruben Amorim has been tasked with bringing Manchester United back to the promised land.
