Watch Crystal Palace Vs Tottenham highlights as Jean-Philippe Mateta’s first-half goal earned Palace their opening win of the season.

The victory lifts Palace out of the relegation zone ahead of next weekend’s trip to 19th-placed Wolves.

Eagles boss Oliver Glasner was under mounting pressure after his side took just three points from their opening eight games.

Mateta’s decisive goal came in the 31st minute. The French forward drove home his third goal of the season after Spurs defender Micky van de Ven lost the ball in his own half.

The visitors responded well to conceding, with Van de Ven’s deflected shot hitting the woodwork. James Maddison then went close for Tottenham, forcing a fine save from Palace keeper Dean Henderson.

After the break, Palace nearly made it 2-0, but Ebereche Eze’s low finish past Guglielmo Vicario was ruled out for offside.

But Palace were deserving winners, and had a late penalty shout turned down when Eze appeared to be pulled down inside the box.

Richarlison then swiped at thin air as he tried to convert Pedro Porro’s dangerous cross from close range.

The result sees Palace climb to 17th in the table, and above the drop zone. It was a much-needed first victory for the South London side, who had kept just one clean sheet all season ahead of Sunday’s game.

Having lose their previous three games, pressure on manager Glasner will have eased. However, Wednesday’s Carabao Cup trip to Aston Villa will be another stern test.

Villa are flying high in both the league and Champions League, and will be tough to beat.

Tottenham, meanwhile, fall the eighth in the table. Ange Postecoglou’s side are now five points below the top four, and host Manchester City in the Carabao Cup before they also play Aston Villa next weekend.
