Mykhailo Mudryk was the star of the show as Chelsea cruised to a comfortable 4-1 win against Panathinaikos in the UEFA Conference League.

On Sunday, the Ukrainian was left out of the matchday squad as the Blues suffered a 2-1 defeat in the Premier League to Liverpool at Anfield.

After his recall in Athens, Mudryk reminded Blues fans what he is all about. Now, he is pushing to start against Newcastle United on Sunday.

Subsequently, many fans of the west Londoners will believe his inclusion is justified. Manager Enzo Maresca certainly has plenty to ponder ahead of clash against the Magpies.

Enzo Maresca Heaps Praise On Mykhailo Mudryk

After their resounding win in Greece, Enzo Maresca admitted he was delighted for Mykhailo Mudryk. The Chelsea winger got on the scoresheet and provided an assist.

In the first-half, Mudryk was the provider as Joao Felix gave the Blues the lead with 22 minutes on the clock. Four minutes into the second period, Mudryk got the goal his performance deserved.

Felix registered his second of the night before Christopher Nkunku made it 4-0 from the spot. Facundo Pellistri pulled one back for the hosts but it was nothing more than scant consolation.

Speaking to football.london after the game, Maresca said that he was “Very happy for him [Mudryk]. We have been working with the wingers to arrive inside the box and in the position he scored.

He struggled to arrive there but now he arrives there [in the right position]. Not only for him but for Pedro [Neto], Jadon [Sancho] and Noni [Madueke]. The learning process is more slow compared to the rest but he is improving.”

Ahead of the game against Newcastle on Sunday, the best football betting sites in the UK make the Blues 5/6 match favourites. The draw can be backed at 16/5 with the Magpies 31/10.
