No trainer has had more Cheltenham Festival winners that Willie Mullins (103) and with the top Irish handler also winning last season’s British jumps championship and looking to defend it – this means horse racing followers will be on the lookout for any Willie Mullins Cheltenham runners this weekend.
Willie Mullins Cheltenham Runners at 2024 Showcase Meeting
The new British jumps season started a while ago, but for many the National Hunt action doesn’t really get going until this week’s two-day Cheltenham Showcase Meeting, which runs over Friday 25th and Saturday 26th October.
We’ll also have the ITV Racing cameras at Cheltenham this weekend to cover nine of the Prestbury Park races live – that will include an array of top trainers from both the UK and Ireland.
One of those trainers is Willie Mullins, who remarkably also became the first Irish yard to win the British trainers jumps title in 70 years last season after winning £3,326,135 in total prize money. Unlike the jockeys’ title, which is won on the more winners, the trainers championship is secured on the more winnings.
So, with the Closutton handler expected to try and defend his title we can expect to see a fair few Willie Mullins runners at the big UK meetings again during the 2024/25 season – starting with the Cheltenham Showcase Meeting this week.
Mullins is currently second favourite, behind Dan Skelton, in the 2024/25 British trainers’ championship market with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK.

Just a handful of possible Willie Mullins Cheltenham runners this Friday and Saturday – but the final horse racing declarations are out later this week (48hrs before each race day).
However, with his 7 year-old Fine Margin having three possible targets spread over Friday and Saturday you feel that this Soldier Of Fortune gelding will run in one of them.
He’s also no stranger to running in England – having won at Bangor in early September but was last seen pulling up in a Class 2 Fixed Brush Handicap Novice Hurdle at Worcester at the end of that month.
