Arsenal Liverpool Referee

Arsenal welcome Premier League leaders Liverpool to the Emirates on Sunday, and the league have confirmed the full set of match officials, with Anthony Taylor appointed as the match referee.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool return to Premier League action on Sunday following MD3 in the Champions League in midweek, as the pair face off at the Emirates in one of four Super Sunday fixtures to close out the gameweek.

The Gunners head into the clash four points adrift of the league-leading Reds after suffering a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in Gameweek 8. The fixture was embroiled, once again, by an Arsenal red card, as William Saliba was given his marching orders after just 30 minutes.

Saliba’s dismissal means he’s unavailable for Liverpool’s visit, with the Frenchman becoming the third player to be shown a red card for Mikel Arteta‘s side in the league this term, following in the footsteps of Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard.

Arne Slot’s side, meanwhile, got the better of Chelsea at Anfield last time out in the league, defeating the London side 2-1 on Sunday. It’s a victory that extended the Reds’ winning run to seven straight matches across all competitions.

Anthony Taylor 2024/25 Statistics

  • Matches: 10
  • Yellow Cards: 52
  • Red Cards: 1
  • Penalties: 5

Anthony Taylor has officiated a total of 10 matches across all competitions so far in 2024/25, refereeing seven in the Premier League and one in each of the Champions League, Europa League and Nations League.

The 46-year-old has brandished 52 yellow cards across these fixtures, along with one red card and five penalties. The red card, along with one of the penalties, were shown in his last English top-flight match as he refereed Leicester’s 3-2 win over Southampton last weekend.

Taylor was also the referee for the Bournemouth vs Chelsea game in Gameweek 4, a clash that broke the record for the most yellow cards shown in a single Premier League match with a total of 14 cautions.

Following a bombardment of social media abuse directed the Manchester-born referee’s way, he was pulled from Premier League duty for the following gameweek.

Has Anthony Taylor Refereed Arsenal or Liverpool This Season?

Across his 10 matches so far this season, Taylor has not yet refereed an Arsenal game. He has, however, been the man in the middle for a total of two Liverpool fixtures.

Taylor was in charge of the Reds’ clash away at Manchester United in early September, a tie in which they comfortably ran out as 3-0 winners, and also officiated their 2-1 win away at Wolves towards the end of September.

The last time he was appointed to referee an Arsenal game came all the way back in March, when the Gunners played out a 0-0 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad last season.

Notably, he was also the referee when Arsenal and Liverpool last met in competitive action, in February of last season. Arteta’s side were the 3-1 victors in that one, and Reds defender Ibrahima Konate was shown a red card.
