European heavyweights Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund will go toe-to-toe at the Bernabeu on Tuesday night in a repeat of the 2023/24 final at Wembley.

Los Blancos conquered the continent for a record-extending 15th time that night. Second-half goals from Dani Carvajal and Vini Jr. secured a 2-0 win.

Fast-forward to this season, Carlo Ancelotti’s side has made an indifferent start to the new league format. On GW1, Kylian Mbappe scored his first UCL goal for the club in a comfortable 3-1 win over Stuttgart.

That was their first defeat in the competition since losing to Premier League champions Manchester City in May 2023. Nonetheless, Real comes into tonight’s clash having beaten Villarreal and Celta Vigo either side of the international break.

Borussia Dortmund

Last year’s runners-up Borussia Dortmund will be gunning for revenge at the Bernabeu after their Wembley loss. The Bundesliga side had plenty of chances in London that night but failed to take advantage.

That was not the case in their last UEFA Champions League fixture as they hit Scottish champions Celtic for seven at Signal Iduna Park. Forward Karim Adeyemi helped himself to a first-half hat-trick.

After that ruthless 7-1 thrashing, Dortmund are perched at the top of the new-look league phase table. On GW1, the Germans secured a comfortable 3-0 away win against Club Brugge.

Nuri Sahin’s men are the only side so far to reach double figures for goals scored and they will really fancy their chances against the reigning champions.

Domestically, BVB beat St. Pauli on Friday night but did lose their Bundesliga fixture before that. They fell to a surprise 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin before October’s international break.

Despite the recent rape allegations, Kylian Mbappe will lead the line for Real Madrid. The forward has vehemently denied the claims and over a million people queued online to secure tickets to see him play in this weekend’s Clasico.

A trio of players are definately ruled out for Real. Dani Carvajal, who was last season’s Player of the Match winner in the final isn’t expected to return until the 2025/26 campaign after suffering an ACL injury.

David Alaba (knee) and Brahim Diaz (abductor) are also ruled out. Doubts also surround midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni’s fitness after he limped out of training on Monday. Rodrygo could fill the void.

Karim Adeyemi will be a huge miss for Borussia Dortmund. The 22-year-old’s treble against Celtic came at a cost as he tore his hamstring later in the game. A return date in late November has been pencilled in.

Former Brighton star Pascal Gross is rated as doubtful alongside Niklas Sule. Julien Duranville (thigh), Giovanni Reyna (groin) and Yan Couto (muscle) are definately ruled out.

Winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is expected to start as he eyes a UCL record. He could become the youngest ever Englishman to score against Real in the competition.
