West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta has issued a strong statement expressing frustration with the leak of “misleading and inaccurate” information regarding the ongoing FA investigation into his alleged involvement in suspicious betting activity.

Paqueta Releases Statement Regarding Betting Allegations

Lucas Paqueta denies the charges against him and insists that the continued publication of false information is hindering his ability to receive a fair hearing.

“I am frustrated and upset to have read recent misleading and inaccurate press articles, published in both England and Brazil, claiming to disclose information about my case,” the Brazilian international said in a statement posted on social media.

“Some of that information is entirely false and appears designed to undermine my position.”

He also expressed frustration with the leak of misleading information, likely coming from somebody close to the case.

“These articles are clearly sourced from an individual close to the case,” he stated. “The FA proceedings are supposed to be confidential, and they are extremely serious for me and my family.

“The continued leaking and publication of inaccurate information in the press is now putting at risk my chance of receiving fair hearing.”

Paquetá has instructed his lawyers to write to the FA demanding a thorough investigation into how confidential details of the case are finding their way into the public domain.

Paqueta’s Future Still Uncertain

The FA have accused Paqueta of participating in illegal betting activities and deliberately exposing himself to yellow cards to manipulate market conditions.

The investigation, which is believed to have been triggered by online gambling company Betway, West Ham’s shirt sponsor, has led to allegations that Paqueta’s family members were also involved in suspicious betting patterns.

Reports in Brazil have claimed that Paqueta’s uncle and cousin admitted paying former Real Betis striker Luiz Henrique over £5000 after Henrique received two suspicious yellow cards.

While the Spanish authorities did not take any disciplinary action against Henrique, the FA is now looking into the matter as part of their investigation into Paqueta.

The FA are reportedly seeking to impose a lifetime ban on Paqueta – a move that would have significant consequences for both the player and his club. With the disciplinary hearing yet to be scheduled, Paqueta’s future in English football remains uncertain.
