Sports Interactive have announced that the highly anticipated Football Manager 25 has been delayed until March 2025.

The game was originally slated for release in November 2024. The developer explained that the decision was made to ensure the game meets “your expectations and our very high standards.”

The additional development time will allow the team to refine the game’s technical aspects and visual presentation, delivering a more polished experience for players.

“This additional time has not been sufficient to ensure the game quality and experience meets your expectations and our very high standards,” the statement read.

“In our last Development Update in September, we explained that we needed to push Football Manager 25’s original release back to give ourselves more time to deliver the best possible experience for this first instalment in a new era of Football Manager.”

The statement continues to explain the problems they’ve had in development which was leading to a rushed release of the game.

“Many things have been moving slower than we had predicted,” the statement read. “Timelines were already tight and, as rightly pointed out by many of your recent comments, we were simply rushing too much and in danger of compromising our usual standards.

“We simply cannot compromise the delivery of this crucial juncture in Football Manager’s history by rushing to release it in November.

“This is not where any of us expected to be seven weeks out from the release but, in the spirit of our studio values, we always consider the bigger picture – and the bigger picture here is that we need this additional time to deliver a game that we can all be proud of.”

The full statement can be seen in the tweet below from the official Football Manager account.

While the delay may disappoint some fans, it appears Sports Interactive are committed to delivering a top-tier football management simulation.

The initial FM25 trailer was met with mixed reviews by fans, and this latest setback is likely to have needled already disgruntled players.

The extra time should benefit the game’s overall quality, ensuring that it lives up to the high expectations set by previous instalments in the series.
