Alan Shearer Warns Lee Carsley of Tough Selection Calls for England – “He’ll have to upset a few fantastic players”

Lee Carsley is facing a selection headache ahead of England’s upcoming Nations League matches against Greece and Finland. With a plethora of talented attackers vying for starting spots, the interim manager will have to make some tough decisions.

According to former England striker Alan Shearer, Carsley will need to “upset a few fantastic players” to ensure the team’s success.

The likes of Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish are all vying for starting berths, creating a fierce competition for places.

Shearer emphasised that while having too many good players might seem like a luxury, it’s actually a challenge for the manager. He praised the current England squad as one that any coach would dream of having, highlighting the exceptional talent on display.

“It’s never a problem having too many good players, it’s only a problem when you haven’t got enough of them,” Shearer told Betfair. “The current England job is exactly what you would want as a manager or a coach with the players available.”

The former Newcastle United striker added that Carsley should prioritise England’s success over individual feelings.

“If he has to leave out and upset one or two players, then so be it, but that’s the beauty of this current England job; you’re going to have to upset a few because you’ve got so many fantastic players.”

Shearer also highlighted the difficulty of choosing between the in-form attackers: “Foden won the Player of the Season last year and rightly so, but has hardly played so far this season, whereas Palmer has started like a train. Bukayo Saka has been ridiculously good, too.

“Jude Bellingham had an injury but is coming back, so the talent there is unbelievable, and they’d walk into most teams. We’re lucky they’re English.”

With the Nations League matches approaching, Carsley will have to carefully consider his starting lineup. The decisions he makes will undoubtedly have a significant impact on England’s performance in these fixtures.
