Manchester City star Matheus Nunes was reportedly arrested for stealing a fan’s mobile phone in a Madrid nightclub. 

The incident occurred on September 8 at the lavish disco La Riviera in the Spanish capital. Matheus was supposedly picked up at approximately 5:30am and taken to a local police station for questioning.

A 58-year-old man is understood to have spotted the Portuguese international in the club toilets. The reveller then tried to take pictures of Nunes without his permission which upset the former Wolves star.

In a fit of anger, Nunes snatched the device away from the reveller and refused to return it to the owner. Therefore, the ‘victim’ contacted the authorities whereby Nunes was picked up and still had the phone in his possession.

He was reported to have been cuffed in front of other stunned partygoers and then whisked away for questionning at the police station in the neighbourhood of Arganzuela. Nunes’ lawyer managed to get him released hours later.

Matheus Nunes Arrest

The Matheus Nunes arrest saga is something of which Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola could really do without at the moment. Especially as problems are mounting up in the Cityzens midfield.

Star man Rodri is ruled out for the rest of the season and Kevin De Bruyne is still returning to full fitness. Furthermore, the champions have lost top spot in the Premier League after back-to-back draws.

However, Nunes did play in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League win against Slovan Bratislava. The Brazilian-born player is a contender to fill the void left by Rodri.

Manchester City Fixtures

Manchester City’s next five fixtures shouldn’t be impacted by the Matheus Nunes arrest saga. Whether the 26-year-old features or not, the Cityzens have some winnable games coming up.

In fact, Nunes’ punishment is likely to be minuscule but a dressing down from boss Pep Guardiola should also help dissolve the issue.

This weekend, City entertain Fulham before a trip to Molineux to face Nunes’ old club Wolves after the international break. Sparta Prague visit the Etihad next in the UEFA Champions League.

Another home clash against Southampton follows after Europe. Then, Guardiola takes his side to north London to face Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.
