Arc NEW

The 2024 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe runners are starting to take shape ahead of Sunday’s big Group One contest at Longchamp racecourse in France – with 20 horses currently entered to take part in the richest flat horse race in Europe.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Runners Headed By Sosie and Look De Vega

Trainer André Fabre has won the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe a staggering eight times and the top horse racing French handler has a leading chance of making it nine with his recent Prix Niel Stakes winner Sosie.

This improving 3 year-old powered clear of a decent field at Longchamp that day to win by 1 1/2 lengths and is now 3-from-3 at the Paris track.

After winning that race Sosie also became the new Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe favourite – dislodging the old market leader Look De Vega, who is now just behind the Fabre horse in the market with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK.

The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe trends, however, tell us though that the last horse to win the Prix Niel and follow up in Arc was Rail Link in 2006.

Just behind this French-trained pair in the betting is the Far East runner – Shin Emperor, as Japan look to win the race for the first time.

We take a look at all the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe runners below in our Longchamp guide – with the final declarations out on Friday 4th October.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Runners-By-Runners Guide 2024

Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Runners Guide 2024 For All Longchamp Entries

1. ZARAKEM

  • Trainer: J. Reynier
  • Age: 4
  • Runs: 12
  • Wins: 6
  • Weight: 9-5
  • Form: 6-1820
  • Last Race: 11th York (Juddmonte International)

Winner of 50% of his 12 career starts, but way back in the Juddmonte International last time at York. Prior to that, however, ran Auguste Rodin to 3/4 of a length in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot (watch below). Won’t mind soft/heavy ground, but is yet to win at G1 level.

2. HAYA ZARK

  • Trainer: Adrien Fouassier
  • Age: 5
  • Runs: 20
  • Wins: 6
  • Weight: 9-5
  • Form: 0-1132
  • Last Race: 2nd Longchamp (La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte)

One of the more experienced Arc runners this year with 20 outings. Has won six of those – including the G1 Prix Ganay here at Longchamp on very soft ground at the end of April (watch below). Was, however, 14th (of 15) in the Arc last year so plenty to prove back racing at the top table.

3. FANTASTIC MOON

  • Trainer: Frau S Steinberg
  • Age: 4
  • Runs: 13
  • Wins: 7
  • Weight: 9-5
  • Form: -29121
  • Last Race: 1st Baden Baden (154th Grosser Preis von Baden)

Top G1 winner in Germany last time out (watch below) on good ground and looking to join other German Arc winners Torquator Tasso (2021) and Danedream (2011). Won on soft, but overall record with cut is just 1-from-5, which would be the worry.

4. AL RIFFA

  • Trainer: Joseph O’Brien
  • Age: 4
  • Runs: 9
  • Wins: 3
  • Weight: 9-5
  • Form: 2-4621
  • Last Race: 1st Hoppegarten (Westminster 134th Grosser Preis von Berlin)

First Arc runner in the race for Irish trainer Joseph O’Brien. Last seen winning a G1 in Germany by an easy 5 lengths and prior to that ran the classy City Of Troy to a length in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown. Not without a chance on form, but despite winning over 1m4f last time – getting home on much softer ground would be the concern. On a plus, he certainly wasn’t stopping last time out (watch below).

5. SEVENNA’S KNIGHT

  • Trainer: A Fabre
  • Age: 4
  • Runs: 14
  • Wins: 5
  • Weight: 9-5
  • Form: 461161
  • Last Race: 1st Longchamp (Prix Gladiateur)

Hails from the 8-time Arc winning yard of Mr Fabre and heads here having won three of his last four races. The last of those being the Prix Gladiateur here at Longchamp over 1m 7 1/2f so staying won’t be an issue (watch below) – but the flipside of that is, will he have enough pace to remain in contention?

6. CONTINUOUS

  • Trainer: A P O’Brien
  • Age: 4
  • Runs: 11
  • Wins: 5
  • Weight: 9-5
  • Form: 15-513
  • Last Race: 3rd Longchamp (Prix Foy)

2023 St Leger winner that has also won over 1m2f this season when taking the Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh. Last seen, however, getting run out of things in the Prix Foy (3rd) here at Longchamp so more needed (watch below). On a plus has experience of this race when 5th – beaten just 3 1/2 lengths last year. Will be looking to give Aidan ‘Brien a third Arc win.

7. AUGUSTE RODIN

  • Trainer: A P O’Brien
  • Age: 4
  • Runs: 15
  • Wins: 8
  • Weight: 9-5
  • Form: -02152
  • Last Race: 2nd Leopardstown (Irish Champion Stakes)

Last year’s Epsom Derby winner and top-class performer for Aidan O’Brien – but the Japan Cup in November is expected to be his main target and is only likely to run here if the ground dries out significantly. If he does run, however, will certainly be one of the leading players after another top effort last time in the Irish Champion Stakes (2nd). The horse will also be retiring to stud after the Japan Cup.

8. LUXEMBOURG

  • Trainer: A P O’Brien
  • Age: 5
  • Runs: 18
  • Wins: 7
  • Weight: 9-5
  • Form: -40166
  • Last Race: 6th Leopardstown (Irish Champion Stakes)

7th in the 2022 Arc, which was won by Alpinista. If running here will be having his 19th career start and has won seven times. Last seen running 6th in the Irish Champion Stakes – beaten just 2 1/2 lengths and also took the Coronation Cup at Epsom back in June (watch below). Certainly no back number, but you feel it would be a big shock if he’s good enough at the age of 5 having tried once before.

9. MQSE DE SEVIGNE

  • Trainer: A Fabre
  • Age: 5
  • Runs: 17
  • Wins: 8
  • Weight: 9-2
  • Form:2-1111
  • Last Race: 1st Deauville (Sumbe Prix Jean Romanet)

Experienced mare who has raced 17 times with eight wins. Last seen winning the Prix Jean Romanet for a second year in-a-row at Deauville (watch below) and has now won her last four. Hard to totally ignore coming from the powerful Fabre team, but the unknown is the trip – running over 1m4f for the first time in her career.

10. LOOK DE VEGA

  • Trainer: C & Y Lerner
  • Age: 3
  • Runs: 4
  • Wins: 3
  • Weight: 8-13
  • Form: 1-113
  • Last Race: 3rd Longchamp (Prix Niel)

French Derby winner (watch below) this season and had been propping up the Arc market with the best betting sites in the UK until getting beaten by Sosie in the Prix Niel last time out (3rd). Has only had four career runs, so capable of bouncing back, but needs to find 3 1/2 lengths with that horse and with that also being his first try over 1m4f you have to question if she stays this far – the French Derby is run over 1m2f.

11. SHIN EMPEROR

  • Trainer: Yoshito Yahagi
  • Age: 3
  • Runs: 7
  • Wins: 2
  • Weight: 8-13
  • Form: 2-2533
  • Last Race: 3rd Leopardstown (Irish Champion Stakes)

Looking to become Japan’s first winner in the Arc – with the country having gone close with Deep Impact and Orfevre in previous years. Was only beaten a length to Economics in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown last time out and on that form would be a big player. He was running on well that day too to suggest the longer trip will suit – but the unknown is the ground as all his runs have been on ‘good’ or faster. Was also third in the Japan Derby this season back in May (watch below) – again, running on well at the finish.

12. SUNWAY

  • Trainer: David Menuisier
  • Age: 3
  • Runs: 10
  • Wins: 2
  • Weight: 8-13
  • Form: 527243
  • Last Race: 3rd Doncaster (St Leger)

Been knocking on the door in big races all season – including second in the Irish Derby back in June. Last seen running another good race, when third in the St Leger (watch below) and will certainly stay well, plus has won on very soft ground in the past. Not without a chance of getting involved but the niggle is that he’s won just one of his last nine races.

13. DELIUS

  • Trainer: J-C Rouget
  • Age: 3
  • Runs: 5
  • Wins: 3
  • Weight: 8-13
  • Form: 11132
  • Last Race: 2nd (Prix Niel)

Frankel colt that is lightly-raced, with only five career runs. Second last time to Sosie in the Prix Niel and ran on well that day to indicate he’s in with a shout here. Has won on heavy ground in the past too and will be open to more improvement. Also hails from the Rouget yard, who have won two of the last four Arcs – including last years. The negative is that he’s seen the back of Sosie now in his last two races so a tiny bit more needed.

14. SOSIE

  • Trainer: A Fabre
  • Age: 3
  • Runs: 6
  • Wins: 4
  • Weight: 8-13
  • Form: 2-1311
  • Last Race: 1st Longchamp (Prix Niel)

Shot to the head of the Arc market after winning the Prix Niel in the middle of September (watch below). Had Delius and Look De Vega back in second and third that day too and is now also 3-from-3 here at Longchamp. Has won on soft ground too and with just six career runs should have more to come. The last Prix Niel winner, however, to win the Arc was Rail Link in 2006.

15. LOS ANGELES

  • Trainer: A P O’Brien
  • Age: 3
  • Runs: 7
  • Wins: 5
  • Weight: 8-13
  • Form: -13114
  • Last Race: 4th Leopardstown (Irish Champion Stakes)

This Camelot colt has been a top performer for Aidan O’Brien this season and has now won five of his seven starts – including the 2024 Irish Derby back in June. Last seen running a fine fourth in the Irish Champion Stakes (watch below) and has also won in France on very soft ground in the past, when winning the Criterium de Saint-Cloud at Saint Cloud last October. The last Irish Derby winner to land the Arc (in the same season) was Hurricane Run in 2005. Dylan Thomas won the Irish Derby in 2006 and the Arc in 2007.

16. SURVIE

  • Trainer: N Clement
  • Age: 3
  • Runs: 7
  • Wins: 3
  • Weight: 8-9
  • Form: -33217
  • Last Race: 7th Longchamp (Qatar Prix Vermeille)

This filly is a winner of three of her seven starts but is yet to land a G1 race. Last seen running 7th to Bluestocking in the Prix Vermeille – beaten just under 10 lengths – so a fair bit more to find.

17. OPERA SINGER

  • Trainer: A P O’Brien
  • Age: 3
  • Runs: 9
  • Wins: 4
  • Weight: 8-9
  • Form: 1-3215
  • Last Race: 5th Longchamp (Qatar Prix Vermeille)

Expected to not run and take in the Prix de l’Opera instead.

18. AVENTURE

  • Trainer: C Ferland
  • Age: 3
  • Runs: 7
  • Wins: 3
  • Weight: 8-9
  • Form: -21412
  • Last Race: 2nd Longchamp (Qatar Prix Vermeille)

Ran a gallant second to Bluestocking in the Prix Vermeille last time out – beaten just 3/4 of a length after heading the winner up the Longchamp straight (watch below). Has won on soft and heavy in the past too and being a 3 year-old filly will get both the age and sex allowance here (8-9). Has only finished out of the first three once from her seven runs and also runs for the same owners (Wertheimer & Frere) as the market leader Sosie.

19. BLUESTOCKING

  • Trainer: Ralph Beckett
  • Age: 4
  • Runs: 12
  • Wins: 4
  • Weight: 9-2
  • Form: -11241
  • Last Race: 1st Longchamp (Qatar Prix Vermeille)

Supplemented for €120k in midweek to get into the race and so based on last year’s prize money will need to finish 5th or better to recoup that. High classy filly who has won four of her 12 starts and been in the top two for nine of those as well. Trip and soft ground are fine and after her last run is now also a course winner at Longchamp. Ticks a lot of boxes and the Beckett yard, despite never winning the Arc came close in 2023 with Westover (2nd). The last Prix Vermeille winner to follow-up in the Arc was Treve in 2013.
