Celtic Dortmund German

Celtic will be looking to earn a historic win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, as the Scottish side have never beaten a German team in Europe’s top competition.

When it comes to facing German opposition in the UEFA Champions League, Celtic have failed to impress on every single occasion – holding an abysmal record so far.

Improving this record will not get any easier for Brendan Rodgers’ side, as they travel to the Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday evening in GW2 of the UCL .

These two sides have never met in the re-branded version of the Champions League, but when you look into Celtic’s previous matches against German teams it does not bode well.

The Scottish giants have played Bayern Munich the most out of any German club, first meeting in 2003/04 and facing off in the 2017/18 group stages most recently.

Bayern have dominated this fixture, winning three out of the four matches and still taking a point from the other meeting.

Celtic have scored just two goals in these matches, whilst Bayern managed to find the net seven times and earn victories home/away in 2017-18.

Borussia Mochengladbach are the next German team that have enjoyed great success over Celtic in the Champions League – picking up four points from two matches against the Bhoys in 2016/17.

However, this campaign was the only year that saw Celtic earn a point on German soil after securing a 1-1 draw at Borussia-Park.

Finally, and most recently, Celtic were swept aside by yet another German opposition, as RB Leipzig beat the Scottish side both home and away in 2022/23.

The Bundesliga side scored five goals in two matches against the Bhoys (3-1 & 2-0), adding further damage to Celtic’s record in Germany.

Borussia Dortmund will be the fourth German side that Celtic have faced in the Champions League and we have ran through the Bhoys’ previous results against Bundesliga opposition below.
