The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe favourite ahead of Sunday’s big race in Longchamp will naturally take up the bulk of the market – so just which horses are vying for the favourites position?

Sosie Is The Current Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Favourite (But Only Just)

No trainer in the history of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe has won the Longchamp race more times than André Fabre – with the French legendary handler having eight horse racing wins in this race to his name.

However, he could increase that record further in the 2024 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe as he’s got one of the favourites with the best horse racing betting sites in the UKSOSIE – heading into Sunday’s race.

Sosie was last seen winning the Prix Niel at Longchamp on 14th September by 1 1/2 lengths (watch below) – with the previous Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe favourite Look De Vega back in third.

To date this 3 year-old colt has won four of his six career starts and will be trying to make his father proud with his sire Sea The Stars winning the Arc back in 2009.

Despite Sosie holding Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe favourites berth in the build-up to the race – he’s only just ahead of the likes of Look De Vega, Shin Emperor and the Aidan O’Brien-trained Los Angeles, so a lot can change between now and the race on Sunday 6th October.

Those looking to take on Sosie might cling to the fact the last Prix Niel winner to follow up in the Arc was Rail Link back in 2006 and before that Hurricane Run in 2005.

How Many Favourites Win The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe?

The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe market leaders don’t have a bad recent record in the race – winning the last two runnings with Ace Impact (watch below) and Alpinista.

While if we go back a bit further, we’ve seen four of the last seven Arc jollies win the race – meaning a decent 57% strike-rate.

The race has also seen seven favourites in the last 22 (32%) and 13 of the last 22 market leaders have also been placed (top 3).

Prior to the last two years, it was the classy mare Enable who held up the favourites record – winning both her Arcs in 2018 and 2017 as the horse at the head of the market.

She was also sent off at a short price in her three-timer Arc bid in 2019 (at 1/2) but was collared late on by the Fabre-trained Waldgeist.

In contrast to the favourite, the biggest-priced Arc winner in recent times was in 2021 with Torquator Tasso caused the shock at odds of 72/1.

But, overall, the average winning SP in the last 22 runnings of the race has been 10/1 – mainly bulked up due to the previously mentioned big winner in 2021, plus 33/1 (Solemia, 2012) and 20/1 (Danedream, 2011) winners.
