This week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is the oldest sponsored event on the DP World Tour and will have a star-studded cast that include Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy heading to the famous links course at St Andrews, Scotland.

Jon Rahm Hoping To Bounce Back From Spain Open Play-Off Defeat

LIV golf individual winner Jon Rahm will be one of the star names on show at St Andrews golf course this week as the Spanish big-hitter looks to go one better than last week’s Open de Espana second.

Rahm ended his tournament last week on -14, but so did fellow Spainard Angel Hidalgo – which forced a play-off which Rahm lost on the second hole after Hidalgo holed a two-foot putt to take the title.

However, with more Ryder Cup points (1,500) up for grabs at this week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Jon Rahm is back out again quickly and the best golf betting sites in the UK are making him the one to beat – installing him as the St Andrews favourite.

Former world ranked number one player, Jon Rahm, who is now 13th in the list after defecting to the LIV tour, has never won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Rory McIlroy Looking For First Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Win

After a week out, world number three Rory McIlroy is another big draw at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this week as the Northern Irish golfer looks to go one better than his recent seconds in the BMW PGA Championship and Irish Open.

McIlroy suffered a playoff defeat to Billy Horschel, who is also expected to be in this week’s Dunhill Links field, at the BMW PGA Championship a few weeks ago, and like Rahm is still to win this event.

Rory McIlroy has come close to winning the Dunhill Links though – finishing runner-up no fewer than three times (2009, 2011 and 2014).

He’s the general second favourite in the market with the best betting sites in the UK, behind Rahm.

Current Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Champion Matt Fitzpatrick Back To Defend Title

This week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship will also feature top English players Tyrrell Hatton, who now plays on the LIV golf tour, and Tommy Fleetwood – the pair were tied runners-up in 2018, while Hatton won back-to-back Dunhills in 2016 and 2017.

Scot Robert MacIntyre will be hoping to win the event played in his homeland and if he can would be the first Scottish winner of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship since Colin Montgomerie in 2005.

Shane Lowry will be flying the flag for Ireland – with Padraig Harrington the last Irishman to lift the title.

Plus, the 2024 renewal will also see the current champion Matt Fitzpatrick back for more.

Fitzpatrick saw off a strong field in 2023 by 3 strokes with a score of -19, with the 2022 winner from Australia Ryan Fox back in joint second.

The win provided Fitzpatrick with his ninth tour title.

If Matt Fitzpatrick can successfully defend his title, he’ll be the first repeat winner since Tyrrell Hatton and also join Padraig Harrington as the only other two-time Alfred Dunhill Links Championship winner since the tournament started in 2001.
