Bournemouth will be looking to break their Monday night curse in the Premier League as they welcome Southampton to the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries face Southampton in GW6 of the Premier League, in a fixture that is regarded as the second biggest rivalry on the South Coast.

However, beating their rivals is not the only factor at play for this league clash – as the Cherries look to improve their luck on Monday nights.

Bournemouth have played seven Premier League matches on a Monday evening and have won on just one occasion – back in October 2018 against Crystal Palace.

Their first Monday night fixture in the Premier League came in August 2015, as the Cherries lost 1-0 against Liverpool thanks to a controversial winner from Christian Benteke.

The Cherries were back in action on a Monday evening just a few months later, as Bournemouth were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates during the Christmas period.

Petr Cech set a new record for Premier League clean sheets in this match and Mesut Ozil put in a man of the match performance, alongside a goal to give Arsenal all three points.

It was another disappointing display in the Christmas period for Bournemouth in their next Monday night meeting, losing 3-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in December 2016.

The Cherries were then beaten in their next Premier League fixture on a Monday, as Raheem Sterling and a Tyrone Mings handed Manchester City a 2-0 win over Bournemouth.

Eddie Howe finally secured his first point on a Monday in the Premier League, as Bournemouth and Brighton played out a 2-2 stalemate at the Amex Stadium in January 2018.

The 2018/19 season finally brought a Monday night victory for Eddie Howe and ended a run of five straight matches without a win – with a 2-1 victory at home to Crystal Palace.

Daniel Brooks opened the scoring for Bournemouth before Patrick Van Aanholt levelled just after the break and Bournemouth secured the win through a late Junior Stanislas penalty.

Bournemouth’s most recent fixture on a Monday evening followed a similar trend to the majority of their results, as West Ham won 2-0 at the London Stadium in October 2022.
