Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers are a professional football team that competes in the NFL’s NFC North division. The Packers are the only small-town team left in the league after several competed in the ‘20s and ‘30s. The team won the first two Super Bowls in 1966 and 1967 under head coach Vince Lombardi. Green Bay’s major rivals include the other teams in the NFC North: Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions.
Unlike other teams in the NFL with a single owner, the Green Bay Packers are a nonprofit, community-owned team. Stock is only available for purchase during offering periods, though. The last offering was in 2012, which went toward funding a Lambeau Field expansion.
The Packers get their unique name thanks to team co-founder Earl “Curly” Lambeau. He asked his employer, the Indian Packing Company, for money to start the team, and in return, he agreed to name the team after the company.
The Green Bay Packers are one of the oldest franchises in the NFL, and they are one of the most successful. They have four Super Bowl titles to their name, plus nine other league championships.
