New York Yankees
The New York Yankees are a professional baseball team that competes in the MLB within the American League East Division. The team started as the Baltimore Orioles in 1901 but moved to New York as the New York Highlanders in 1903.
The Yankees are one of the most successful professional baseball teams in the United States and have won 27 World Championships.
Several of the sport’s most notable legends, from Babe Ruth to Lou Gherig to Derek Jeter played for the Yankees.
The original Yankee Stadium was built in the Bronx, New York, from 1922 to 1923. The stadium closed in 2008 and was demolished in 2010. The current Yankee Stadium began construction in 2006 (adjacent from the original stadium) and opened for the 2009 season.
