Steelers Sign WR Jacob Copeland to One-Year Deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed free agent wide receiver Jacob Copeland to a one-year contract, the team announced Friday. Copeland, who turns 25 on July 20, spent time on the Steelers’ practice squad in 2023.

The 6-foot, 201-pound wideout signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 draft. However, Tennessee cut him, and he later signed with the Minnesota Vikings during training camp. Minnesota then waived Copeland during the preseason.

Copeland spent time with the Chiefs this offseason. The Florida native has yet to appear in an NFL game.

In four seasons (2018-21) at the University of Florida, he had 86 receptions for 1,366 yards and nine touchdowns.

During his freshman year at Florida in 2018, Copeland was redshirted, only appearing in three games. He had a kick return for 26 yards and a pass reception for 16 yards.

Copeland played in all 13 games of the 2019 season, recording 21 catches for 273 yards (21 yards per game) with two touchdowns on offense and special teams. He also averaged 28 yards rushing and posted his first tackle.

As a sophomore in 2020, he played in 11 of 12 games, finishing with 23 receptions for 435 yards (18.9 yards per game receiving) and three touchdowns.

Copeland transferred from Florida to Maryland in December 2021

In the 2021 season, Copeland appeared in all games (11 starts), with 38 receptions for 607 yards and four touchdowns.

Following the Bowl Game against UCF, he entered the transfer portal. Copeland announced his transfer to the University of Maryland, College Park in December 2021.

They have been with me since day one and helped me grow into the athlete and man I am now. I have learned and developed so much while attending the University of Florida over the last four years!”

During his junior year at Maryland in 2022, Copeland had 26 receptions for 376 yards and two touchdowns. The receiver declared for the 2023 NFL draft in December 2022.

His second stint with the Steelers could be the one.
