Free agent forward OG Anunoby plans to sign a five-year, $212.5 million contract to return to the New York Knicks, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday.

OG Anunoby, Knicks Agree To Massive Contract Extension

Anunoby’s new extension includes a trade kicker and player option.

The Knicks acquired Anunoby in a trade with the Toronto Raptors on December 30, 2023. The Knicks traded RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and a second-round pick to the Raptors for Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, and Malachi Flynn.

At 6’7″, Anunoby made an instant impact for the Knicks, especially on the defensive end.

The Knicks were 12-2 in Anunoby’s first 14 games before suffering an injury at the end of January.

Anunoby helped propel the Knicks past the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Anunoby injured his hamstring in Game 2 of the second round against the Indiana Pacers.

In 23 regular season games with the Knicks, Anunoby averaged 14.7 points and 4.2 rebounds with a 3-point percentage of 39.4%.

In 33 total games with Anunoby in the lineup, the Knicks went 27-6.

Knicks Building A Contender

The Anunoby news comes one day after the Knicks completed a blockbuster trade for Brooklyn Nets guard Mikal Bridges.

The Nets agreed to trade Bridges and a 2026 second-round pick to the Knicks for Bojan Bogdanovic, four unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027, 2029, and 2031), an unprotected pick swap in 2028, a top-four protected 2025 first-round pick via Bucks, and a second-round pick in 2025.

Bridges reunites with his Villanova running mates, Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo.

With the Bridges acquisition, the Knicks now have multiple wings that can guard multiple positions, a formula that just helped the Boston Celtics win the NBA Championship.
