In three weeks, the first game of the 2024 NFL season will kick off on Thursday, September 5. Before the regular season starts, bettors love to go on mobile sportsbooks and place a futures bet. That could be anything from the team winning the Super Bowl to Offensive Rookie of the Year. Last season, Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson won the second league MVP of his career. Heading into 2024, Jackson doesn’t even have top-five odds to win the award. Next, we’ll take a deep dive into the top three candidates to win league MVP in 2024.

What players have the lowest odds to win MVP this upcoming season?

To the surprise of no one, Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes is the betting favorite to win NFL MVP. DraftKings sportsbook has Mahomes at (+475) to win. He’s already won the award twice in his career. The last time was his 2022 campaign with 5,250 passing yards, 41 passing touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. In 2024, the Chiefs have added some offensive weapons to help out Patrick Mahomes. With the 28th pick in the 2024 draft, the Chiefs selected speedy WR Xavier Worthy out of Texas. He set an NFL combine record this past spring with an outstanding 4.21 40-yard dash. The rookie is expected to be a legitimate offensive weapon for the Chiefs similar to what they had in Tyreek Hill. Additionally, Mahomes has Rashee Rice and All-Pro TE Travis Kelce to work with. After a down year in 2023, Patrick Mahomes is primed to have a bounce-back season in 2024.

The player with the second-lowest odds to win NFL MVP in 2024 is Texans QB C.J. Stroud. He’s coming off an impressive rookie campaign in 2023 where he finished with 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and five interceptions. That was enough for Stroud to win Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2023. He is (+850) to win league MVP this season. Heading into year two, the Texans have added a few more offensive weapons for their franchise QB. The team traded with the Buffalo Bills to acquire Stefon Diggs. He’ll be part of the WR trio that includes Nico Collins and Tank Dell. Additionally, the team traded with the Texans for RB Jo Mixon. C.J. Stroud is expected to take a step forward in year two with the offensive talent he has around him.

Finally, it’s a tie between Josh Allen and Joe Burrow at (+900) for the third-lowest odds. The two Pro Bowl QBs are healing into two very different situations. For Allen, he’s lost his top two WRs this offseason, Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. Buffalo has added WR talent through free agency and the draft to help Allen in 2024. It’s going to be an interesting season for the Bills but Josh Allen has the talent to make any player look great. Joe Burrow is looking to stay healthy for the Bengals in 2024 after a wrist injury cut his season short in 2023. Once again, Burrow will get to work with the elite WR parking of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. When he’s healthy, Joe Burrow has led the Bengals to two deep postseason runs that included a loss in the Super Bowl.
