Warriors Off To A Hot Start, But Have A Tough Stretch Coming Up

One of the bigger surprises through the first few weeks of the 2024 NBA season has been the Golden State Warriors. The team went through some changes in the off-season that saw the end of their long-time Big 3, and there were questions regarding the talent on their roster heading into the new year.

But after their win over the Wizards on Monday, Steve Kerr’s team is now 6-1 on the season. They have a point differential better than +15, and could wind up tied for first place at the end of the night, depending on the results of the Thunder and Suns games.

They’re relied on their deep rotation through their first seven games. Kerr has regularly been going 10-14 deep in his rotations, and the Warriors have 13 players who are averaging at least 10 minutes per game. Star point guard Stephen Curry suffered an injury in the team’s only loss, but Golden State was able to win both games that he missed.

How much of their success is due to their soft early season schedule, though? Four of their first six victories have come against teams that are in the bottom four in the Western Conference, and the others came against the Rockets and Wizards. The record of the teams that the Warriors have played through the first three weeks of the season is currently 12-26.

They’ll finally start to be tested the rest of this week and into the next. To close out their current five-game road trip, they’ll be going up against three of the top teams in the NBA in the Celtics, Cavaliers, and Thunder. Boston is the championship favorite and have hopped out to a 6-1 start, while Cleveland and OKC came into Monday as the last two unbeaten teams in the league.

The tough stretch will continue when they return home, as their two games scheduled for next week will be played against the Mavericks and Grizzlies. Tuesday’s game against Dallas will mark the return of Klay Thompson to the place where he spent the first 13 years of his NBA career.
