The Golden State Warriors and guard Chris Paul have agreed to push back the date to guarantee the $30 million on his 2024-2025 contract, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Friday. View the contract details below.

Warriors, Chris Paul Move Back Contract Guarantee Date

The deadline to guarantee Paul’s salary for the upcoming season was Friday. However, Paul and the team agreed to push the date to Sunday, the start of NBA free agency.

Paul, 39, is entering the final year of a four-year, $120 million contract he signed with Phoenix in 2021.

Paul was traded to the Warriors last offseason in a move where Golden State sent Jordan Poole to the Wizards.

In 58 games for the Warriors, Paul averaged 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 6.8 assists on 44% shooting in 26.4 minutes per game. For the first time in his career, Paul consistently came off the bench and became the floor general for the second unit.

The 2024-2025 season will mark Paul’s 20th season in the NBA.

Will The Warriors Trade Chris Paul?

By moving the deadline to Sunday, the Warriors have more time to explore trades involving the veteran guard.

Paul’s contract is perfect for matching salaries with an All-Star player in a potential trade.

Wojnarowski reported that the Warriors could ultimately waive Paul, which would provide cap relief. However, Golden State would like to help Paul find a good landing place on another team.

Keep an eye on Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George. The Warriors could offer the versatile wing a max contract if he becomes a free agent. The Warriors could also include Paul in a sign-and-trade with the Clippers if the team pursues George.
