VGW Faces Class Action Lawsuit Over Illegal Gambling Operations In Georgia

Interactive entertainment company VGW has been accused of unlawfully operating and marketing its internet gambling websites within the state of Georgia, according to a class action lawsuit.

Class action lawsuit filed against VGW’s Holdings Limited, Malta Limited, Luckyland Inc., and GP Limited

Destiny Kennedy filed the class action lawsuit last week against VGW’s Holdings Limited, Malta Limited, Luckyland Inc., and GP Limited.

Kennedy alleges that VGW is violating Georgia law by operating and marketing internet gambling websites Chumba Casino, Global Poker, and LuckyLand Slots in the state.

“Plaintiff lost approximately $1,150, playing the casino games of chance that are promoted and operated by VGW on these internet websites,” per court documents filed in the lawsuit.

Kennedy will represent gamblers who lost bets playing Chumba Casino, Global Poker, or LuckyLand Slots

Kennedy plans to represent a class of Georgia gamblers who lost bets playing Chumba Casino, Global Poker, or LuckyLand Slots during the applicable period.

Furthermore, Kennedy claims that VGW advertises its online casino and poker games to Georgia residents as legal and “fun gameplay,” but illegal gambling is still involved because customers “wager and lose real money” every time they play.

“VGW proactively defrauds Georgia citizens because VGW advertises that its operations are legitimate and legal when, in reality, VGW knowingly and willfully operates what constitutes an illegal gambling enterprise,” according to the lawsuit.

VGW is allegedly violating Georgia Code § 13-8-3

Kennedy argues that VGW is guilty of violating Georgia Code § 13-8-3. She is asking the court to grant her a jury trial and an award of monetary relief for herself and all class members.

Sports betting, poker games, and any other type of online betting remains illegal in Georgia. Two sports betting bills fell short in 2024, as the legislative session ended without approval.

Legalized gambling in the Peach State is still a real possibility, but residents will have to wait until 2025. However, daily fantasy sports sites are technically permitted. The state has neither legalized nor outlawed fantasy sports contests.
