Tua Tagovailoa Contract Details

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Tagovailoa is signing a four-year, $212.4 million extension with $167 million guaranteed. It is the largest contract in franchise history.

Selected with the fifth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Tagovailoa has thrived the last two seasons under head coach Mike McDaniel.

The 2023-2024 season was Tagovailoa’s best as a pro. The 26-year-old led the NFL with 4,624 passing yards, throwing for 29 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, and a 101.1 passer rating.

Tagovailoa started all 17 games and represented the AFC in the Pro Bowl.

Tagovailoa’s success helped the Dolphins reach the playoffs for the second straight season. However, the Dolphins lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card round.

Tua Tagovailoa Becomes One Of The Highest-Paid Quarterbacks In The NFL

Tagovailoa is the latest quarterback to sign a huge extension this offseason.

In May, the Detroit Lions and Jared Goff agreed to a four-year, $212 million extension with $170 million guaranteed.

In June, Trevor Lawrence agreed to a five-year, $275 million extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars, with $200 million in guaranteed money and $142 million fully guaranteed at signing.

Tagovailoa is the third highest-paid quarterback in the league in average per year (APY) at 53.1 million. Only Lawrence and Burrow at $55 million have a higher APY than Tagovailoa.
