Team USA basketball executed a furious comeback to defeat Serbia and secure a spot in the gold medal game against France.

Team USA Beats Serbia, Advances To Gold Medal Game

For 37 minutes, it looked like Team USA wouldn’t advance to the gold medal round for the first time since the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Enter Stephen Curry and LeBron James.

Curry and James were spectacular on Thursday. The Warriors guard finished with a game-high 36 points on 12-19 shooting. Curry also had eight rebounds and two assists, to go along with two clutch free throws to ice the game for Team USA.

Age is just a number for King James. The 39-year-old recorded a triple-double of 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists.

Joel Embiid chipped in with 19 points, while Kevin Durant finished with nine.

Serbia had the U.S. on the ropes the entire game, entering halftime with a 54-43 lead. Serbia extended their lead to 76-63 after three quarters.

The United States outscored Serbia 31-15 in the fourth quarter to win by a score of 95-91.

Bogdan Bogdanović led the way for Serbia with 20 points on 8-18 shooting. Nikola Jokic finished with 17 points, five rebounds, and 11 assists.

United States Plays France In Gold Medal Game

In the first semifinal, France defeated Germany 73-69 to advance to the gold medal game.

Guerschon Yabusele led the way for France with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Isaia Cordinier chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds. Cordinier made two free throws with seven seconds to ice the game for France.

French phenom Victor Wembanyama lit up the box score with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three blocks.

The host country will medal in basketball for the first time since the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

The United States will face France in the gold medal game on Saturday, August 10, at 3:30 p.m. ET. It’s a rematch of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where the U.S. defeated France 87-82 to win gold.
