PGA Tour Championship 2024: Starting Positions, Odds, & Favorites

The final leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs is set tee off on Thursday, August 29th, with 30 of the top-ranked players vying for the FedEx Cup at East Lake Golf Club in Georgia.

Unlike any of the regular season PGA Tour events, the FedEx Cup Playoff events are based on points. While extra cash, points, and exemption incentives were available throughout the first two events, the final event will offer a $25 million purse along with a five-year PGA Tour exemption.

The Tour Championship’s uniqueness stems from its format. Instead of using standard stroke play, players will use the Starting Stroke format, which allows season leaders to have an advantage at East Lake.

The field is highlighted once again by Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele, who are the top two favorites in Atlanta. Scheffler opens with +115 to win the FedEx Cup while Schauffele sits back with +235 odds.

Tour Championship 2024: Starting Positions

The Tour Championship will implement a Starting Stroke Format, meaning players will start with a certain amount of strokes back from par, based on their FedEx Cup rankings

The FedEx Cup leader, Scottie Scheffler, will start with a 10-stroke lead, while No.2 player, Xander Schauffele starts with an 8-stroke advantage. The strokes ascend up to par for the rest of the players in the field.

The leading strokes awards the top performers of the year. FedEx Cup points are awarded for finishes throughout the regular season. This weekend, the Tour Championship winner will be determined after 72 holes and the player with the lowest stroke total over four rounds combined with his Fedex Cup Starting strokes will be crowned the winner.

Tour Championship 2024 Winner Odds

At East Lake this weekend, the top players have a huge advantage over the field. Without even stepping onto the course, Scheffler already has a 10-stroke lead, making him the overwhelming favorite in the event.

Scheffler is the odds on favorite, opening with +115 odds. Just behind him, Schauffele sits with +235 odds. Meanwhile, the next closest player is Hideki Matsuyama at +1200 odds, along with Rory McIlroy +1800, and Ludvig Aberg at +2200.

Despite winning the BMW Championship last week, Keegan Bradley sits only 8th on the odds chart with +4000 to win.

With the odds so tight between Scheffler and Schauffele, the Tour Championship appears to be theirs to lose.

Tour Championship 2024 72-Hole Stroke Play Winner

The Tour Championship will not feature a cut. That means all 30 players will be required to play through 72-holes across four days.

Taking out the Starting Stroke Format, the Tour Championship 72-hole winner is based more on players’ skill and current form.

Even without a 10-stroke lead, Scheffler (+450) is still the odds-on favorite to have the best score after three rounds. The same goes for Schauffele, who comes in at +475 odds after getting the monkey off of his back by winning two majors this year.

The rest of the top five contenders include Rory McIlroy (+1100), Collin Morikawa (+1600), and Ludvig Aberg (+1600).
