Nick Sirianni Passionately Rips Philadelphia Radio Host After Dominating Playoff Win
Nick Sirianni has heard the doubters loud and clear — not just the ones in the national media, but the ones right down the street, too. The Philadelphia Eagles head coach has heard 94 WIP, the most popular sports radio station in Philly, criticize defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon ever since he took over the position in 2021.
So, after Gannon coached a masterclass of a game in the Eagles’ 38-7 win over the New York Giants in the NFC Divisional round, Sirianni had some choice words for a specific WIP radio host.
Nick Sirianni and Jonathan Gannon were masterful against the Giants
What a performance from Sirianni, Gannon, and the entire Eagles coaching staff. Philadelphia seemed to have the coaching disadvantage against Coach of the Year favorite Brian Daboll, offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, and defensive coordinator Don Martindale, but that’s not how it played out on the field.
The Eagles dominated the first half to head into the locker room up 28-0, and they cruised to the finish line to advance to the NFC Championship Game in convincing fashion.
Gannon, who doesn’t get enough credit for what he’s done these past two seasons, called a near-perfect game. Philadelphia held New York to just 227 total yards on 4.4 yards per play. The Giants reached the red zone just one time all night and scored only seven points.
With Gannon running the show, the Eagles finished the regular season as the best passing defense and the eighth-best scoring defense in the NFL. Sirianni, Jalen Hurts, and the offense get most of the credit, but the Eagles wouldn’t be where they are now without Gannon.
Nick Sirianni bashes Philadelphia radio host after playoff win
Sirianni believes he has one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL on his staff, but the Philadelphia media has unfairly criticized Gannon since he took the job last season. 94 WIP, and specifically longtime radio host Angelo Cataldi, have been the main culprits.
After Gannon shut his doubters up on Saturday night, Sirianni defended his DC with a passionate rant.
“Jonathan Gannon puts these guys in great positions,” Sirianni told reporters. “Obviously, we have great players. Sometimes I have to hear some things about Jonathan Gannon, and I don’t know if it’s you guys. Might be more other people. I won’t say names… Angelo (Cataldi), right?
“This guy is an unbelievable coordinator,” he continued. “The fact that he doesn’t get respect from our radio station (WIP) blows my mind. As a matter of fact, coaches from other teams ask me, ‘Does Jonathan Gannon get s*** here?’ I’m like, ‘Somehow, yeah. This guy’s incredible. He’s gonna be a football coach in the National Football League because of what he does. This guy’s a stud.”
Coincidentally, Sirianni is scheduled to appear on WIP Monday morning to speak with none other than Cataldi himself.
“I can’t wait to talk to Angelo,” he said.
