Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson.

So far, only one NFL head coach has been fired during the regular season. Will any coaches be terminated from now until the end of the season? Below, we examine the odds for the next NFL coach fired.

New York Jets Fire Robert Saleh

On October 8, the New York Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh five games into the 2024 NFL regular season. The Jets were 2-3 when owner Woody Johnson fired Saleh following the Jets 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London.

Saleh ends his tenure with a 20-36 regular season record, the fourth-lowest winning percentage (35.7%) in team history.

Under Saleh, the Jets never finished better than 7-10 in three full seasons.

The Jets promoted defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich to interim head coach. In the team’s first game under Ulbrich, the Jets lost an ugly 23-20 game to the Buffalo Bills at home on Monday Night Football.

Odds via BetOnline on 10/15/24.

Per BetOnline, Jacksonville’s Doug Pederson (-140) is the overwhelming favorite to be the next NFL coach fired. The Jaguars are 1-5. More importantly, the play of quarterback Trevor Lawrence has significantly declined.

The Jaguars play their second consecutive game in London in Week 7 against the New England Patriots. If the Jaguars lose to the Pats, does Jaguars owner Shad Khan fire Pederson before the plane lands back in America?

There’s precedent for Khan firing a head coach during the season. Khan dismissed Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer in 2011 after a 2–11 start.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy (+400) is next on the hot seat. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has publicly supported McCarthy. If the Cowboys (3-3) continue their downward spiral, don’t be surprised if Jones is in the market for a new coach.

Cleveland’s Kevin Stefanski (+550), Las Vegas’ Antonio Pierce (+600), and Cincinnati’s Zac Taylor (+900) are additional coaches to keep an eye on.
