On Monday morning, the Saints relieved Allen of his head coaching duties. The move comes less than 24 hours after the Saints lost to the Carolina Panthers by a score of 23-22.
After winning their first two games of the season, the Saints have now lost seven games in a row.
Special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi has been named the interim coach.
Allen was promoted to head coach of the Saints after Sean Payton retired on January 25, 2022. Allen ends his tenure with the Saints with a head coaching record of 18-25.
Combined with his tenure in Oakland, Allen’s overall record is 26-53.
Allen released a statement, thanking ownership and the organization for their support
“I want to take this opportunity to first and foremost thank Gayle Benson for the opportunity to be the head coach of the New Orleans Saints,” Allen said in a statement on Monday. “The organization will always be near and dear to my heart and I am disappointed the results weren’t better. I also want to thank Mickey Loomis for the support he and his staff provided throughout the entire time I was with the organization.”
