Several notable games for the 2024-2025 NBA season have been revealed. Below is the schedule for NBA opening night and Christmas Day.

Boston Celtics Host New York Knicks On Opening Night

Per Shams Charania, The defending champion Boston Celtics will open the season at home against the New York Knicks on October 22. The Celtics will receive their championship rings before the game.

The Celtics won the 2023-2024 season series 4-1 against the Knicks.

The Celtics enter the 2024-2025 season as the favorites to repeat as NBA champions. Meanwhile, the Knicks will unveil their new look roster featuring Mikal Bridges, whom they acquired in an offseason trade from the Brooklyn Nets.

The second game of the Opening Night doubleheader features the upstart Minnesota Timberwolves traveling to Hollywood to play the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Timberwolves are coming off their best season in 20 years. The Timberwolves fell to the Dallas Mavericks in the conference finals 4-1.

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers are coming off a 2023-2024 season where they lost to the Denver Nuggets in the opening round of the playoffs.

NBA Christmas Day Schedule

Per Shams Charania, the NBA Christmas Day schedule features five games, highlighted by the Philadelphia 76ers traveling to Boston to take on the Celtics.

The five-game schedule:

  • San Antonio Spurs at New York Knicks
  • Minnesota Timberwolves at Dallas Mavericks
  • Philadelphia 76ers at Boston Celtics
  • Los Angeles Lakers at Golden State Warriors
  • Denver Nuggets at Phoenix Suns

The biggest addition to the Christmas Day schedule is Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. The French Phenmon is coming off a silver medal with France at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Noticeably absent from the Christmas schedule are Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. Antetokounmpo reached with crying-laughing emojis on X (formerly Twitter).
