Joel Embiid Appeared on Draymond Green’s Podcast and Gave Him a Taste of His Own Medicine
Draymond Green and Joel Embiid are two of the most prolific trash-talkers in the NBA today. Whenever the Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers get together on the court, you know there’s going to be some fireworks between these two.
The superstars recently took their rivalry from the court to the microphone, as Embiid joined Green’s podcast to talk about his journey to the NBA, the Ben Simmons saga, and the current state of the Sixers. Along the way, though, things got heated and Embiid took a ruthless shot at Green about his shooting.
Draymond Green and Joel Embiid have a fiery but respectful relationship
There’s more to basketball than just being able to put the ball in the hoop. The mental game and the art of trash talk have been crucial to success in the NBA for decades, and not many players know how to get inside their opponents’ heads better than Green and Embiid.
The multi-time All-Stars are two of the loudest trash-talkers in today’s NBA, and chaos erupts every time they meet each other on the court. Green and Embiid have been involved in hard fouls, screaming matches, and more over the years. Still, there’s a mutual respect between the two because of the way they both approach the game.
“I’m a big fan of it. I’m a fan of the way he plays, the way he carries himself, the talking and all that,” Green said about Embiid in 2017. “I like it. I think more guys should be that way.”
Green and Embiid have become friends off the court in recent years, but they can still lock horns from time to time.
Embiid hopped on Green’s podcast and promptly roasted his shooting
Embiid took a quick break from his MVP race to join his rival on the most recent episode of The Draymond Green Show, and he opened up about moving from Africa to the United States, all the drama surrounding the 76ers this year, and more. It’s a must-listen for all the die-hard NBA fans out there.
But at one point during the episode, tempers flared and the two traded a few jabs back and forth. Embiid first ribbed Green about needing double-teams to cover him, and then he went for the kill shot.
Embiid: “You can make plays because you can’t shoot the basketball.”
Green: “Hey, but I make every other play. Leave me open down the stretch and I’mma can your ass.”
Embiid: “But would I rather make Stephen Curry or you beat us? I’d take you any single day.”
Potential NBA Finals matchup?
With Green finally back in the lineup after missing more than two months due to injury, the Warriors once again look like NBA title contenders. As for the 76ers, the addition of James Harden makes them one of the most dangerous teams in the Eastern Conference.
Could we see Embiid and Green face off in an NBA Finals matchup? We sure hope so, and so do they.
“Hopefully we will meet y’all in the Finals, because as you know, like nobody else in this league, I’m lockin’ that s*** up,” Green said.
What a battle that would be.
