Six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady is set to make his record 10th appearance in the NFL title game, which will obviously be his first with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going 6-3 as the starting quarterback of the New England Patriots. On the opposing sideline at Raymond James Stadium will be the Kansas City Chiefs and their superstar quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, who many believe has the only chance to even come close to matching Brady’s wins or appearances in the Super Bowl.

As Brady did back in 2000 with the New England Patriots, Mahomes spent his rookie season in 2017 with the Chiefs on the bench behind a veteran quarterback. And also as Brady did, Mahomes shined when given the chance to become the starter and both won their first Super Bowl at the age of 24. Now we’ll just have to wait and see if Mahomes can get his second Super Bowl win before Brady did.

The fact that Brady has the Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55 in his 21st year in the NFL is a testament to his greatness and while Mahomes’ career has gotten off to a phenomenal start, there’s no way of knowing that he’ll be able to play at the elite level that TB12 has for two decades now.

So just how old was Patrick Mahomes when Tom Brady won the first of his record six Super Bowl titles?

After 20 seasons with the New England Patriots, Tom Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ahead of the 2020 season and promptly led them to their first postseason appearance in 13 years. He then led them to their first playoff win since the Bucs won Super Bowl 37 following the 2002 season, which ironically was one of just two seasons in which Brady missed out on the postseason, with a wild-card win over Washington.

Brady then led the Bucs to a divisional-round win over Drew Brees and the Saints and punched a ticket to his 10th Super Bowl by leading Tampa Bay to a 31-26 victory over Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game.

As for Patrick Mahomes, he had an MVP-caliber season in leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a 14-2 record, a fifth consecutive division title, and the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP had a bit of a scare in the Chiefs’ divisional-round win over the Cleveland Browns and wasn’t at 100 percent in the AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills as he was dealing with turf toe. But he still went out and put on a show, completing 29 of 38 passes for 325 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in Kansas City’s 38-24 victory, sending the Chiefs to their second straight Super Bowl.

With a win in Super Bowl 55, the Chiefs would become the first team to win back-to-back titles since Tom Brady and the Patriots did it following the 2003 and 2004 seasons.

In his first season as the starting quarterback for the Patriots in 2001, which was made possible by an injury to Drew Bledsoe, Tom Brady led New England to an 11-5 regular-season record and wins over the Raiders and Steelers in the AFC playoffs before beating the LA Rams in Super Bowl 36.

That Super Bowl was played on February 3, 2002, and was actually the first Super Bowl played in February due to the season being pushed back due to the September 11 attacks. On the day that Brady earned his first ring, Patrick Mahomes was six years, four months, and 17 days old.

And the 25-year-old will now face off with TB12 with a chance to become the youngest quarterback in NFL history to win two Super Bowls. As you would guess, the current record-holder is none other than Tom Brady, who was 26 years, five months, and 29 days old when the Patriots won Super Bowl 38.
