How Close Is LeBron James to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s All-Time NBA Scoring Record Following the Lakers’ Win Over the Spurs?
With LeBron James back in the lineup following a five-game absence, the Los Angeles Lakers finally picked up their first road win of the season on Friday night, beating the San Antonio Spurs 105-94.
James played solidly in his return, hitting eight of 17 shots from the floor and all four of his attempts from the foul line en route to 21 points. He also added eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
Anthony Davis continues to play some of the best basketball in the entire NBA and recorded 25 points and 15 rebounds in the victory, the Lakers’ fourth in five games. Lonnie Walker IV added 18 points against his former team, while Troy Brown Jr. chipped in with 10.
All five San Antonio starters scored in double figures, led by Tre Jones’ 19-point effort, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Spurs from their seventh straight defeat, the second-longest losing streak in the league this season.

With 21 points on Friday night, LeBron James now has 37,332 regular-season points for his career, putting him 1,055 behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar‘s all-time record of 38,387.
Assuming James stays healthy, doesn’t miss any more time, and maintains his season average of 24.5 points per game, he’ll surpass Abdul-Jabbar on Sunday, February 26, when the Lakers visit the Dallas Mavericks.
If LeBron ups his production a touch and hits his career scoring average of 27.1 points per game moving forward, he’ll pass Kareem on Thursday, February 9, when LA hosts the Milwaukee Bucks.
