Gun Lake Voted Best Casino In West Michigan For 2024

Gun Lake Casino in Wayland, Michigan, has been named “Best of the West” for 2024 as West Michigan’s best casino by Revue Magazine.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Gun Lake Casino, owned by the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi, has been named “Best of the West” in the Revue casino category under “Arts & Attractions.”

Readers nominate businesses, and winners are chosen by voting from visitors to the Revue website. Of course, Revue magazine is based in Grand Rapids. The publication features topics like entertainment, food, culture, and tourism centered on the western side of the Great Lakes State.

Furthermore, the magazine’s region excludes the Detroit area home to three major casinos: Hollywood Casino at Greektown, MGM Grand Detroit, and the MotorCity Casino.

According to the Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan, the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi is commonly referred to as the Gun Lake Tribe. 

The Pottawatomi tribal nation received its federal recognition of tribal status from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. This was in accordance with the Federal Acknowledgement Process of 1978. In fact, the Final Determination was published in the Federal Register on Oct. 23, 1998.

Additionally, the tribe is headquartered in Shelbyville, Michigan, located in Allegan County. Shelbyville is south of Grand Rapids in the southwestern part of the Lower Peninsula. The casino is operated by MPM Enterprises, LLC., a subsidiary of the Pottawatomi tribal nation.

In April, Gun Lake Casino CEO Sal Semola was also selected to the prestigious “Best of The Best” list in gaming and hospitality by Bentley Price Associates, a worldwide executive sourcing specialist in the hospitality industry for nearly five decades. 

The “Best of the Best” list recognizes executive leaders in the hospitality and casino gaming industry. Any licensed casino can be recognized regardless of the organization’s size. 

Peers nominate candidates, according to the website. Bentley Price Associates’ ad hoc committee selects them based on their demonstrated ability to lead throughout their careers. 

Moreover, Gun Lake Casino is currently undergoing Phase 5 expansion, which is slated to be completed next spring. The project includes a four-diamond 252-room, 15-story hotel tower with a spa and meeting space. 

The hotel resort will also feature a 32,000-square-foot entertainment dome boasting year-round 80-degree weather and three separate indoor swimming pools.
