Per ESPN’s Brady Henderson, Smith underwent tests on his hip and knee on Thursday. Seahawks head coach said Smith got a little banged up at Tuesday’s practice.

“He’s working through a couple things from the other day,” Macdonald said. “But we’ll get some imaging tonight, and we’ll see.”

Despite the injury scare, Smith should be OK.

On Friday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Smith’s test results did not reveal a significant injury to his hip and knee. Smith “shouldn’t miss any time,” meaning the Seahawks should have their starting quarterback ready for Week 1.

If Smith were to miss time, which quarterback on the Seahawks roster would take his place?

Former Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell would be the first option to replace Smith. In March, the Seahawks acquired Howell, a 2024 fourth-round pick, and a 2024 sixth-round pick from the Commanders for a 2024 third-round pick and a 2024 fifth-round pick.

Howell started all 17 games (4-13) for the Commanders during the 2023 season. Howell threw for 3,946 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions.

The Seahawks also signed veteran P.J. Walker to a minimum-salary deal to be the team’s third-string quarterback.
