Dave Portnoy is the founder of Barstool Sports and he’s one of the most famous sports bettors in the modern era. Not only has Portnoy built a successful sports media brand but he’s also hit several large bets over the past year. Recently, he revealed that he has placed another huge wager on the Philadelphia Phillies to win the World Series. Portnoy reportedly has a $200,000 bet on Bryce Harper and the Phillies to hoist the Commissioner’s Trophy.

Tracking Portnoy’s biggest sports betting wins

In four months, the 47-year-old won $5.4 million in total. He had bets on Michigan and Washington to advance to the college football National Championship game. He won $1.5 from those two wagers. His second large wager was on the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Super Bowl.

When the Chiefs defeated the 49ers in OT of Super Bowl 58, Portnoy won another $500,000. His hot streak with futures bets did not end there. With the winnings he already made, Portnoy bet $600,000 on the UConn Huskies men’s basketball team to win the National Championship in basketball.

Dan Hurley and the Huskies won their second-straight title and Portnoy won $2.1 million.  Portnoy carried that momentum into the NBA season where he bet on his hometown team to win the NBA Finals. He wagered $1.6 million on the Celtics. When they beat the Mavs in the 2024 NBA Finals, Portnoy won $1.59 million. He also had a future on Caitlin Clark to win Rookie of the Year in the WNBA.

Back in late June, Portnoy placed a $200,000 wager on the Phillies to win the World Series.

Can the Phillies make another run to the World Series?

In the divisional round of the 2024 MLB postseason, the Mets and Phillies are in an intense battle. New York is the hottest team in baseball and they keep finding ways to pull off miraculous wins. The Mets did that in Game 1 vs. the Phillies. It was 1-0 heading into the top of the eighth inning but the Mets scored five runs and won the game 6-2. It was another incredible comeback victory for the Mets. The Phillies answered with a 7-6 at home in Game 2.

Nick Castellanos had a walk-off single in Game 2 to help Philadelphia tie the series. They need to win one of the next two games in New York to force a Game 5 back in Citizens Bank Park. Game 3 is Tuesday night and Aaron Nola will be on the mound for the Phillies. He had a 14-8 record in the regular season and had a 3.57 era. If the Phillies can escape the Mets in the divisional round, they likely face the Dodgers in the National League Championship series. Dave Portnoy would win $1.4 million if the Phillies win the World Series.
