In a surprise move, the Dallas Cowboys are acquiring wide receiver Jonathan Mingo in a trade with the Carolina Panthers. View the trade details below.

Panthers WR Jonathan Mingo Traded To Dallas Cowboys

Despite a 3-5 record, the Cowboys decided to become buyers, not sellers, at the NFL trade deadline.

Per NFL Network’s Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the Cowboys are sending a 2025 fourth-round pick to the Panthers for Mingo and a 2025 seventh-rounder.

The Panthers drafted Mingo in 2023 in the second round out of Mississippi. Mingo caught 43 passes for 418 yards in 15 games during his rookie season.

However, Mingo’s role was dramatically reduced this season, mainly due to the additions of Xavier Legette, Jalen Coker, and Diontae Johnson.

Mingo has only made 12 catches for 121 yards in nine games in 2024.

One of Dallas’ problems stems from their lack of depth at wide receiver behind CeeDee Lamb. The Cowboys hope Mingo will look more like the player in 2023, not 2024.

Dallas Cowboys Entering Pivotal Stretch Of Season

There is little room for error in Dallas. At 3-5, they cannot afford to fall too many games behind their NFC East rivals, Washington Commanders (7-2) and Philadelphia Eagles (6-2).

If Dallas is going to get back into playoff contention, it will be without Dak Prescott, who injured his hamstring in Sunday’s 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Initially believed to be a quick recovery, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Prescott would likely be placed on injured reserve, making him ineligible to play for at least four games.

Cooper Rush will start at quarterback on Sunday when the Cowboys host the Philadelphia Eagles.
